You think of Thomas Steen I take it. I dont think that's a major factor, but who knows. I guess Alex knows about the town. As havent been to Winnipeg, so I've no idea if that's a good or bad thing.

I didn't notice the date until I saw a post saying Colaiacovo was great. Then I knew this thread was ancient.

Did you see what Toronto gives to anyone who's better than a 4th line / bottom pairing d-man? That's not how Armstrong, or even most of the league that operates.

Nothing to feel bad about and Steen is surely a good underrated player but come on.
At least take out the seasons where Toronto had no clue what they were doing... No one feels bad about the fact that players have to develop into their prime...

....who are both a big reason why Steen is off to such a great start. Someone has to get him the puck and buy time and space.

I think he has been the most important player for the Blues so far this year. And he is very fun to watch….except when playing the Hawks

If he keeps this up there is no doubt he is "turning into" a star. The issue is can he keep it up? He doesn't need a goal per game pace to do it either with his two-way game and backchecking. He could be half a goal a game and still be a superstar in the league. Still would end up having a few assists too.

I really don't see Steen as the type of player who is going to chase the highest bidder. He might, but he and our GMDA have said that they want to get a deal done. From all accounts he wants to be here and the staff REALLY loves him and wants to keep him, so I don't see why they won't get something done.

So far this year is a clear outlier, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have the ability to improve his production. I think this year may be higher than expected, but most Blues fans see Steen's ceiling as a 30 G 60pt all world two way forward. This year may finally be the year where he puts it all together. But GMDA is smart enough to know that one doesn't build a long term contract off one career year, that and he may still regress this year to his mean, he is just affording himself one hell of a buffer in terms of points per game! So I still think that a 5yr-25mil contract is a reasonable guess. But if he DOES make it to UFA he could get offered a stupid Clarkson contract, and just like Clarksons deal, the team will immediately regret it.

So we're clear. He's a career less than 10% shooter. He's shooting at 30%. He's not keeping it up. It'd be the third best shooting percentage ever and it'll come down.

He's off to a good start but its been 15 games. Let's see him get to 35 games first.

Regression to the mean. I'd be shocked if he managed even 30 goals.

He'll definitely slow down for sure but I think 30 is pretty attainable. I certainly wouldn't be shocked by this.

Now if someone said 40-50 goals then yes, that would shock me.

Alex was a star already as a sperm...His father was one of the best players so the apple did not fall far away.

On a serious note...Alex is a good example of why we shall have patience with players. Some need rounding and find their spot. As other have pointed, he has been playing well for years...now the goals just happens to come.

Agreed. 30 goals seems like a certainty if he keeps up even half his career shooting percentage the rest of the way (barring season ending injury of course). 40-50 would be impressive.

You'd be shocked if he scored 16 more goals in 68 games?

Steen is not Clakson but even more important...
St. Louis is not Toronto!

look at the contract handed out by both clubs in the last few years and tell me if you see a difference.

you might serve me some major crow next summer thou...
