Over/under 10 days before Cartsiephan is on suicide watch?
Not sure I like another long-term deal, but I'll be happy to have Carter locked up. The cap hit really depends on the length of the deal so I'm not gonna bother with a prediction.
I just hope he doesn't get more than $6. I'll understand it if he does. But I just don't want him to. Five years, $5.75 mil is what I'd like to see. Probably will be more like seven years $6.25 is what I'd guess. Hopefully no more years or money than that.
You're talking about a potential 40-goal scorer who has already done it once, and asking him to give up UFA years. He's absolutely over $6M.
He is pretty much on part with Richards in terms of points. The only difference is carter once scored 46 in a season in which he had 84 points and that season Richards had 80. I really think their contracts will be similar

The dynamic has changed with the amendment to the long-term contract rule. Richards is also getting paid for years later in his career that he would not be.
really would like them to wait until the off season on him for this.
On the other hand if he puts up a lot of points this season, he'll be able to have higher demands. Though that might not happen considering he is currently on pace for 27 goals and 60 points, but I think he will do better than that.

very true as well. I just think that's a risk worth taking, as with his personal demands increasing, so will other teams interest in him as well which may be a win/win situation. I'd simply at this point after his last 3-4 years really like the team to wait and judge this season, and most importantly in my eyes, his play in the post season before opening the vaults to him. I think his asking price is already very high because he once reached the 46 goal plateau at a young age not so long ago. If he hits 40 again I don't see it making a massive difference in what they're already about to shell out to him, maybe if he does then he can command a few more years?

He'll do much better. Now that Giroux is signed, they can move him back to the wing and let Carter play centre where he belongs...
If we could get Carter at 5.75 for 6 years I'd be okay with that. I'd prefer 5 years, but I feel like it will be longer than that.
Carter might agree to be on par with Richards, he's always been reasonable in the past. Also, they can throw in an NMC in exchange for a half point on the cap hit....
