If he's a LW, he could very well get a sustained chance on the top line next season. If he's a RW or a C, he could be in the AHL for a year, the 4th line for a year, then the 3rd line for a year or two... and maybe before 2015, he gets a chance on the top line.

That wasn't what he was saying. He wasn't really even talking about trading the D-men or Lehner. He was talking about how ridiculously imbalanced we'd be with Top-2 lines full of Alfie 37, Iginla 33, Savard 33, Fisher 30... back up by a bunch of 19-20 yo D-men and starting goalie. The players on that team would never click at the same time to win anything and it would mostly be a waste of time.

i heard a "rumour", and by "rumour" i mean said right out of alfie's own mouth at a hotstove at the charron centre in kanata, that he doesn't see himself playing the third year of his contract at $1mil.

How do you think Michalek would play in his natural position RW. Next year with Kovalev potentially gone could he play 1st or 2nd line RW.

I hope by that he means retire, and not some holdout (which is extremely unlikely, given it's Alfie)

We would still get the full cap hit, he was over 35 when he signed the deal.

Does his cap hit still count if he retires 35+?

Yep, but that could end up being a lockout year and in that case... it wouldn't matter. Nor would Gonchar's last season either.

I think he meant to bring down the average cap hit over the length of the deal.

Depressing but I can easily forsee a lockout. Too many owners are losing money and will want to establish some new ground rules that the NHLPA will invariably be opposed to. As a fan there is not a damn thing we can do

I thought the reason for the buy out was that it allowed his next contract to be signed when he was under 35.

I can't. The players won't lose another season arguing over 3% of revenue.

I'll throw myself off the 28th floor of a random office building if there's another lockout

The fact that you even considered that a possibility will forever prevent me from taking you seriously.

Quite a bit better. He seems to see the ice much better whenever he ventures over to the right side and get better shots off. We need to get Regin to centre as well.

Basically, we need 2 or 3 actual LW's this summer. No more guys playing out of position and playing worse than they would if they were playing their natural position.

Is it possible to move Mike Fisher to the Wing? Do we have to sign a petition to do so?

LW-Spezza-Butler
Fisher-Regin-Michalek
Foligno-Silfverberg-Alfredsson
Smith-Kelly-Neil
Winchester

yes but they added the 1 mill year to reduce the overall cap hit.

Who cares what he likes? lol (I wish it would be that simple)

Mike Fisher is a better goal scorer than a playmaker, he's a North-South player, a power forward type. His game is best suited for the Wing.

Regin? His game is best suited for center. He is Chris Kelly with offensive upside, or another style of Vermette. Antoine has always been more efficient as a center, it's just the way the things are.

Fisher accepting to be a winger would benefit the team IMO. We are actually wasting some offense as a more playmaking 2nd line center would be a better idea than a goal scorer.

This is why Fisher had most of his success with Kovalev and Alfredsson, because they are playmakers.

Having a playmaker at center is important, because the center can "make" plays both sides, instead of a playmaker making a cross-ice pass through a million of sticks.

The cap has been going up every year. Who is losing money?
