Still known for signing some big name free agents, New York is looking more and more to developing its drafted and undrafted young prospects.

Thank you for a good summary and some color. A quick question - you mentioned MDZ on defense but not AA at center. Is it due to age since both of them are 2nd year NHLers?

I did not cover Anisimov because he is not considered a prospect under HF's rules. The only reason I mentioned Del Zotto, who has also played toomany games to be a prospect under HF's rules, is because he is the only young real offensive defenseman in the system. There is no purely offensive NHL-potential blueliner coming up behind him.

This would be nice 3 years down the road....

Dubinsky-Anisimov-Gaborik
Kreider-Stepan-Callahan
Hagelin/Grachev(one will be traded)-Werek-C. Thomas
Prust-Boyle-Weise

Staal-Girardi
MDZ-McDonaugh
McIlrath-Sauer

Loving that Kundratek is doing well in the AHL. Hopefully he can be a solid 3rd pairing defenseman in the NHL.

These line-ups never happen... check out the same types of ideas looking back 3-5 years... the likes of Dawes, Prucha, Sanguinetti, Korpikoski, Murray, Montoya, Potter etc... the list goes on...

its not too far off actually as most of the guys are already part of the team

I didn't see anything from Grachev and I haven't seen Hagelin, Werek and Thomas so if just one of them makes the team that is a reasonable expectation

just slide Boyle into the 3rd line slot along with one of the 3 kids in the system and its not too shabby a team

for me however the development of MDZ is the key issue

NY needs someone to carry the pill, make that breakout pass and anchor the powerplay and MDZ is that guy right now.

I agree, that roster is too home-grown. Prospects are meant to be used in trades, some prospects bust and the other prospects blossom into stars.
