Team Quebec will be part of the new Quebec Cup!

This scoop should be confirmed today.

Team Quebec should compete against the national teams of Switzerland, France and Italy. Hockey Canada approved. It should take place in August in Quebec City. I can't wait to see that!

P.S. Yes it's Réjean Tremblay, but he's usually reliable when it comes to this kind of news...

It's all for money, the real match up will be between the Swiss and the Quebecers.

Can't wait to see if some professionals will show up.

Who cares? Not team Canada, not a major tournament and I would be extremely surprised if they get any major names to play in it.

Who cares? You're serious? You'll be massively surprised by the audience... Many fans (and I'm among them) have been dreaming of a Team Quebec for decades. And just from a hockey perspective, it will be very interesting to see them compete against Switzerland.

If many NHLers join the tournament, it will get a lot of media exposure here, without a doubt.

I don't really see the point of this honestly... France, Switzerland and Italy? Why woud Vincent Lecavalier, Martin St-Louis or Roberto Luongo want to play in a tournement against France and Italy?

My take is that it is an interesting topic, it's about hockey, and it's therefore thread-worthy in general. Whether it belongs on the Habs board or not...

I think this is the board that most people who are interested in this will come to. Not many of us go to the international boards. My inclination is that it would be ok to leave it here.

But if it gets out of hand (inevitable!) in terms of political commentary, it will be moved or closed. I don't mind if another mod wants to act pre-emptively in that direction.

If Hockey Canada approved it, does it mean they still wear the Hockey Canada uniforms, say per Team Quebec in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge? Presumbaly. So... maybe the Team Canada faithful can let it go? Don't take Tremblay's bait so easily...?

Should be an interesting and fun tournament.

That's an intriguing question... It's nice from Hockey Canada to allow it. After all, the UK let the Wales and Scotland have their own "national" team in football and rugby. A few nations without countries also have their own delegation in the Olympics (Palestine, Cayman Island, Grenada, Aruba, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, etc.)

I hope it's amateur hockey like university players and washed up juniors who won't ride the bus in the ECHL.

Have they shown any jersey yet?

I don't see why it's a problem to have another professional hockey tournament. The money coming out of it will be given to Hockey Québec to help poor kids buy equipement.

Anyways, hater's gonna hate.

No they either need to play in NHL, ECHL, AHL or a professional hockey league in Europe.

EDIT: They will invite all the NHL Quebec stars.

Looks like the idea was a Francophonie tournament but when they realized Belgium, Senegal and Côte-d'Ivoire were not that good they invited Italy instead. So its like a Mont-Blanc region tournament, but with Quebec and in Quebec City.

That's fantastic. Even if people disagree with Quebec as a separate nation, if it's for a good cause, who cares about the political implications?

Switzerland is a big part of the Francophonie.

It should at least surpass the Spengler cup as the 10th most meaningfull hockey tournament for Quebecers.
