Strong effort against a team we tend to struggle with.

Howard was fine but Babcock needs to get the memo that we have a backup G on the roster.

Why in the world would Babcock play Joey MacDonald when we have a young goalie who's playing well?

If Howard is really poised to make 4m+/yr he needs to be able to play 60-65 games.

Because. Your mom.

If you need a better answer, please consult Euroman.

All drunkeness aside, I agree, keep MacDonald on the pine where he belongs. Shmuck.

61-66, jeez, we already covered this.

Picking 3 stars for this game is tough. The Oilers made everyone look good. Whoever makes the most entertaining post in this thread (besides me), I'll vote for who they vote for.

They don't have a backup goalie on the roster. They have an AHL goalie on the roster. MAYBE if it's a back to back, and Howard has to make 50 saves and PK for 20 minutes in the first game.

Good game by just about everyone. Hudler played a good game, got involved and made things happen. Modano can't buy a goal.

Sick switch-handed assist by Bert. I can shoot with either hand so I always think if I had been a hockey player I coulda done that kind of stuff. Takes some huevos to actually do it in a game.

They don't need to play Joey right now. Howard is playing fine and has good stamina. No need to sit him when he's playing well.

Anyways,

1. Cleary
2. Filppula
3. Bertuzzi

HM: Holmstrom, Hudler and Khabi for being so nice to us

If you aren't a hockey player, how do you know you can shoot with either hand?

What do you think Osgood is at this point?

It's like they don't want to give MacDonald a game because it may just show how bad Osgood has regressed.

I think they don't want to give MacDonald a game because HOward gives them a much better chance to win, simple as that.

To answer the first question, Osgood is an old goalie who's best days are behind him and who is currently injured but otherwise struggling in the role of a backup. Hopefully he can get to 400 wins this year.

I basically voted for who entertained me the most.

Cleary, Homekeys, and someone else.... Mule maybe?

Yeah, Mule.

Which I understand and have no problem with.

But if Babcock leans too heavily on him, it will potentially burn us when it matters the most.

Case in point: there was no reason for Babcock not to use MacDonald on a back-to-back in Vancouver on Saturday night with a home game on Monday.

It's a long season.

Eh, I understand the concern, but I think Howard can handle it. If he gets Kiprusoff'd, I'd complain too. But I don't see anything wrong with a 60-game pace. He started 61 games last season and was fine.

Cleary, Homer, Flipper.

Give me a team full of Clearys. Work ethic, hustle, attitude, and brains.

Homer is unmatched within 10 feet of the net. Sure, he might be useless anywhere else, but you can't argue he doesn't get things done.

Flip was flying these last couple of games.

I don't usually partake in these, but I'm sending a write-in vote for Ericsson because I thought he looked really good throughout the entire game. That's a scenario that defies convention, so I'm going to go along with that theme and do the same.

I've played plenty of roller hockey and driveway hockey, but never in any kind of competitive sense. And I've never ice skated because they don't make ice skates for the Hobbit-footed.

I'm right handed and fairly ambidextrous, and I shoot "righty" with a hockey stick, so switching to "lefty" is pretty natural since it's the standard outside the US to put the dominant hand on top on the stick.

That's why like 90% of the righty defensemen you see at the draft are Americans. Apparently we all grow up swinging hockey sticks like baseball bats.

Filppula, Cleary in no particular order. Homer with 3rd star. Although I don't know if I saw a poor performance in the whole group. Both Oiler goals came in garbage time when the game was in no doubt.

I think Osgood is injured. He's not an option right now.

I also think they believe that Howard has been outstanding this year with just the one blip in Vancouver, and playing MacDonald doesn't make a lot of sense when Howard is going so well.

Unless the fatigue factor comes into play, but then they started him for like 3 months straight last season so they probably aren't ready to sit him after like 4 starts in a row.

If MacDonald is the prospect goalie and they want to get a feel for where he is in his development, maybe you find him a game to get in there (I would, but the Wings wouldn't). They know what MacDonald is - a good AHL veteran and mentor who can chart faceoffs while Ozzie is injured. And if he absolutely had to come in and play, he's not the worst 3rd string goalie in the league.

My guess is that they roll with Howard until Ozzie gets back, or until Howard gets too injured to play. Or until Howard gets shelled and they pull him mid-game when it's clear they're not going to win.
