Nothing is official, but the best-case scenario for Simon Gagne's return to the team is Saturday against the Sabres. The more likely scenario is Monday against the Bruins or Wednesday against the Rangers.
If he's healthy, we could really use him back in the lineup.

With Lecavalier out, where does Gagne fit into the lineup?

Downie - Stamkos - St. Louis
Gagne - Moore - Malone

His cap number and term length dictate was is expected from him. Guys that are leaders and team players don't make buckets of money for their leadership. They make buckets of money to put up numbers so that their pay is justifiable. Under the current situation thus far this season he has been bad, I don't care how many intangibles he brings to the table. He is paid to ****ing put up points and score.
How dare you! He's Vinny for ****s sake. Just the fact that he's Vinny is enough to justify his paycheck and his lack of scoring. He's ****ing Vinny! Lay off.

I also like how some seem surprised that Gagne is hurt, ****ing again. Seems to me that someone here (wonder who that was) warned everyone about his general ****ing propensity for injury only to get flamed. The guy is a ****ing ragdoll.

Given your emphatic defense of Vinny, your take on Gagne is a wee bit puzzling.

Yeah, the guy has an injury history, but it's only marginally more substantial than Vinny's. If you watch the way Gagne plays, it's really not that surprising: for all his skill, he plays a gritty game. He's much more consistently physical than Vinny despite a smaller frame and build.

Is it frustrating that he took a nasty hit that's forced him to miss significant action? Hell yes. That said, no need to dump on the guy like he's some sort of pansy, because he's not. He's a proven talent and playoff performer and I'll GLADLY take a low season point total if that means he can be a warrior for us in the playoffs.

While going full force in on-ice and off-ice workouts, Tampa Bay Lightning forward Simon Gagne no longer feels any issues related to the strain in his neck.

Afterward, however, a buildup of pressure forms in the back of his head and settles in his forehead, a sensation he began experiencing last week while working out with strength and conditioning coach Chuck Lobe. That will keep the former All-Star out of tonight's lineup for the 15th consecutive game, although a return later this week seems likely. (...)

The diagnosis remains the same as last week, when he returned to practice with the team on Tuesday. A compression in his neck continues to restrict some blood flow into his head, causing the buildup. Gagne continues to get chiropractic therapy to help loosen up the area of his neck that is the root of the issue.

"It's getting better, it's not quite gone, but it is getting better,'' Gagne said. "It's better than it was three days ago, but we still have to make that feel a bit better.''

While a return to the lineup on Wednesday against the New York Rangers seems logical, Gagne doesn't want to give a specific target date.
Sounds really weird.

Is Gagne's injury something that could be an issue all season? Just wondering if there has been much talk in the Tampa media? I want to pick him up in my fantasy pool and I only have 2 transactions for the year, I don't want to waste one. I appreciate any help.

It's definitely worrying because he was almost cleared to play several times only to be declared "far from a return" again.

Simon Gagne taking shifts with Ritola at center and Tyrell at RW . . . I'm thinking Gagne's in as B. Jones and Ritola swap out line rushes

Gagne better be lights out whenever he comes back. He was expected to be a big part of the secondary offense.

Hope he's ready to go tonight. Won't hurt to have his veteran presence and scoring qualities on the ice vs the Caps...

The good news is Gagne said the pressure he was feeling in the front of his head after workouts has made a big improvement. He didn't want to say for sure when he thinks he'd play again, but there's a chance - if all goes well - he could return Thursday in Boston.

He had good chemistry during pre-season with Vinny and Purcell. But as Vinny is out for at least three more weeks my best guess would be that Boucher will put him on a line with Moore and Malone/Purcell. But anything is possible. Boucher likes to change line combinations during games.

Gagne - Moore - Malone
Gagne - Moore - Purcell
Gagne - Stamkos - St. Louis (M-16 v2.0)

Those should be the most likely ones. But again, anything's possible. I could also imagine him on a line with Downie or Bergenheim at wing with Malone at center, or Thompson. Hard to say, really.

This sentence was buried at the end of the article about Stamkos in today's St. Petersburg Times:
Quote:
Gagne travels: Simon Gagne, out 18 games with a strained neck, is with the team in Toronto. No word if the left wing will play.

Final "diagnosis" on Gagne:
Quote:
Gagne hasn't played since an Oct. 21 game with the Islanders in which he was checked hard into the side boards by wing Michael Grabner. He also sustained a hard hit from Flames defenseman Mark Giordano in a preseason game at Calgary. Gagne said doctors had told him his injury, which the team insisted was not a concussion, was from an accumulation of hits.

Gagne has had various symptoms, including blurry vision when he moved his head quickly and pressure, especially in his forehead, after strenuous workouts.

Hey guys.
Oilers fan here. I enjoy the Lightning and was definitely on the bandwagon when you guys took out the Flames in the finals

Thanks for that. Also, Khabby is a fun goalie to support. You never know what you're gonna get with this guy but I enjoy him.

Anyway, I'm here to ask about Vinny's hand.

I have him in my box pool. I am currently in 2nd place and we're only allowed one substitution per year.

I have Elias on my bench. What's the timeline on VL#4 coming back?

Should I wait or should I make the swap?

Thanks
