although I rather see Teubert, Hickey, Schenn go instead of Lokti.

I doubt you will ever become a GM though.

I love the way that makes the Kings top 6 look. Lombardi wouldn't like the potential cap issues with key RFA's unsigned.

Stoll bolsters out top 6 and brings in some toughness, that Lokito kid is something special IMO. As far as losing TV and TC it obviously kills us short term, but getting out of Vaneks contract would be awsome and he needs a change of scenery. Connolly same for him just floats even though he does produce points evry oncein a while.

Maybe LA should add more, however IMO this is what they would bring in a return in the "market" today....

We can do so much better for Vanek, especially knowing any money we clear will just go to raises for Stafford, Hecht and Montador.

blame Edmonton for the Vanek contract, JOHNBOY, otherwise Myers might be an Oiler had the Burke v. Lowe over Penner and the offer sheet not happened

Well.............. i know this will lead to screaming and abusing...............

but i don't like this trade from Kings POV.

Vanek would make 2 millions more than Lombardi was willing to pay for Kovalchuk.
His contract would run out when he is UFA and he will ask for the same money he made the last years.

7 Millions for a 25 goal scorer is simply to much for my taste.
And yes, i know he was scoring 40 goals onced.
IMO is one of the Frolovs, McCauleys or Cheehoo's who scores 2 seasons very high before the opponents figure them out.

So i'm complete against him. That has nothing to do with overvalueing my players or team.
I wouldn't take him for free.
We have to sign Johnson, Doughty and Simmonds......... that will eat up a huge chunk of our free salary.

IMO Lombardi won't do any trades before the signings and wait for the summer
to go after guys like Semin or PARISE.............

The only thing what would make me want him is if Buffalo takes Ryan Smyth back in a trade.
But of course the Sabres fan base would burn down the head office in Buffalo after that.

Buffalo gets fleeced.Any mention of Vanek going the other way would mean the likes of Thomas Hickey would have to be involved. Tim Connoly is essentially a throw in.

No. Vanek is the best player in the deal and we could get far more in a deal for him. I'd much rather hold on to him than trade him for a second-line center and a good, but not great, forward prospect.

Vanek and Connolly put up nice numbers, but they are only complimentary players, they can't carry a team's offense. They'd both do very well in LA, especially Vanek. Vanek playing on Kopitar's wing would make for a lethal scoring duo. Meanwhile Buffalo gets a two-way 2nd/3rd line center with a chip on his shoulder and an underrated prospect. I'd rather get Brayden Schenn but I doubt the Kings would give him up.

Vanek and Connolly as our top offensive players hasn't worked for the past 4 years, no need to keeping trying the experiment.

Replacing Vanek and Connolly with Stoll and Loktionov wouldn't improve our offense. Now, if a prospect like Schenn was involved with the deal, I would certainly consider the deal. We'd shed salary and add a prospect with first line center potential. Connolly for Stoll is a slight upgrade for the Sabres because Stoll brings a lot of what we need right now, but Vanek for Loktionov is a huge downgrade. Loktionov doesn't have Vanek's potential and, though Vanek's play is frustrating me as much as anyone, I still think Vanek can rebound.

It's not like Buffalo would turn around and use the money saved to invest in a legitimate first round forward, either. I'm up for a rebuild of our top six, but this deal is not the way to do it.

What about a Vanek for Brown type deal? What would have to be added to make it work?

Really?
Is that why hockey writers across the sport are saying your looking for a line 2 playmaking center?
Even Dreger stated such.
Are you sure everyone on the Kings roster is untouchable?

Switch Loktionov to Schenn, and allow LA to dump a salary back on Buffalo.

Stoll, Schenn, Ponikarovsky
for
Vanek, Connolly

I would do the deal if you switch Lokti for Schenn from a Sabres POV.

They are desperate to find a young top Center to groom.
They dump a ton of salary
Stoll creates a bridge (he's signed for next year, Connolly is UFA)

It's a good deal for Buffalo. It provides shake up and salary relief.

Vanek on a line with Kopitar

He did, where? Doesn't make sense, imo. Kings need a top line lw, center position they're pretty set w/ Kopi, Stoll, Handzus and whomever TM feels like, plus Schenn and Lokti being groomed.
