Points of Interest

Penguins PP vs. Thrashers PK
Something has to give tonight. The Thrashers are killing off a meager 75% of penalties this season, but the Penguins are converting at under 14% on the man advantage. The Pens should dominate play 5 on 5 and a special teams advantage would lead them to certain victory against this inferior opponent

High-scoring defensemen
Few teams, if any, have been getting more offensive production from their backend than the Penguins and Thrashers. Kris Letang, Paul Martin, and Alex Goligoski have been steady point producers for the Pens and converted-winger Dustin Byfiglien and Tobias Enstrom lead the way for the Thrash. This game could be a high-scoring affair if the offensive defensemen decide to get deep into the play in the opponent's zone.

Goaltenders
After a horrible start to the season, MAF had a solid game last night in a 5-1 victory over the high-powered Bolts. Assuming he gets his second consecutive start, Fleury's confidence could take a major step forward with a great performance tonight. At the other end of the ice, Ondrej Pavelec returns after a scary "fainting" spell that resulted in a mild concussion. A good young talent, Pavelec has the ability to carry a team with his athleticism and quickness. It's good to see him back healthy and between the pipes.

Goalie Match-Up

Marc-Andre Fleury

2-6-0, 0 SO; 3.23 GAA, .860 SV%

Ondrej Pavelec

1-1-2, 0 SO; 2.34 GAA, .931 SV%

This is the second of six meetings between the two Northeast Division rivals. The Bruins beat the Senators 4-0 in Ottawa on Oct. 30. A balanced attack paved the way for the B's, as four different players scored, including top draft pick Tyler Seguin. Tim Thomas earned his 20th career shutout in the game and fifth against the Senators, while Brian Elliott took the loss for the Sens.

Alexander Semin will look to keep his torrid streak going in Western New York. He'll likely have to do it against Sabres goalie Ryan Miller, who is expected to play for the first time since suffering a knee injury Oct. 29. Miller has practiced with the team this week and proclaimed himself ready to play after Friday's workout. Semin has 12 goals this season, with half coming in just two games. He recorded his second hat trick in nine games and fifth of his career in Thursday's 6-3 win against Tampa Bay. He added 2 assists for a 5-point night, which moved him into fourth place in scoring this season with 21 points. Semin, though, has only 1 goal and 3 assists in 13 career games against the Sabres.

Philadelphia has started off like a team that intends to take another crack at the Stanley Cup, taking charge early in the Atlantic Division. One of the biggest questions for the Flyers last season, goaltending, has suddenly become a strength with the emergence of rookie Sergei Bobrovsky.

Interesting stat. Penguins are leading the league with 26.4 SA/G. Thrashers are dead last allowing 36.9 shots per game.

I'm expecting some lopsided shot totals out of this game.

Keep our new weapon, Kyra Gracie

Fleury bounces back tonight, and we have a solid performance and a 3-1 win. So has it been written

Are those the actual line combos? If so, where did you get them? A Martin - Goligoski pairing seems putrid to me.

Eager-Antro-Modin is not Atlanta's #1 line. More like #3.

Martin and Goligoski were playing together last night according to the Pens radio. I don't remember what they were when I was watching.

Martin played with Michalek last night. He only played with Goligoski during one 4 on 4 that I can remember and maybe IF the pairings were messed up after penalty kills. But I was there and don't remember there being many, if any, times other than that one 4 on 4 that they were together.

I wish a youttube video existed of the coach from major league giving his winning streak speech, it would be fitting.

Update your flash player. If you have the most up to date version, restart your computer. My Mac, from time to time, doesn't show the imbedded youtubes.
