Wednesday’s Game 3 between the Capitals and the New York Rangers was virtually the equivalent of two games. Tied at 1-1 after 60 minutes of play, the two teams battled into multiple overtimes and into the wee minutes of Thursday morning. By the time New York’s Marian Gaborik finally ended the proceedings with the game-winning goal just minutes away from the end of the third overtime period, the two teams had played 114 minutes and 41 seconds of hockey.
“We played good,” says Caps forward Jay Beagle of Game 3, “and obviously it’s disappointing to lose, especially in the third overtime. It was a good game. We’ve just got to stay positive through it.”
Fortunately for both sides, the schedule called for two days between Games 3 and 4. So the two clubs took Thursday to rest and heal their weary and battered bodies before reconvening for practice on Friday. They’ll drop the puck for the all-important Game 4 just past noon on Saturday at Verizon Center.
With Monday night’s win in Game 2 at Madison Square Garden, the Caps had wrangled the home ice advantage for the series away from the Rangers. By virtue of their win in Wednesday’s marathon match, the Blueshirts have re-taken the home ice edge. The Capitals are now exactly where they were after Game 3 of their first-round series with the Boston Bruins, down a game and in serious need of a win in the critical Game 4.
Since then the photo has gone viral, showing up on multiple national websites. On Friday, NHL Live hosts EJ Hradek and Deb Placey asked Karl to tell the story behind the picture.
“In the picture on the left is Duncan and on the right is Charlie,” Alzner began. “Another culprit is Murphy, who me and Mandy assume is the ringleader. He was hiding at the time.”
“I was excited to be home and see the dogs,” Alzner, who estimated that he got 2,500 more twitter followers due to the photo, explained. “Usually we have them in a crate, but Mandy was leaving early to go to the game and we knew that they’d be in [the crates] for a while.”
That’s when the 23-year-old Capitals defenseman felt sorry for his pets and decided to let them be free and roam the house for the night.
“We thought maybe we’ll give them a chance,” he said. “Everything should be fine. Then we came in and they greeted us at the door. We took them outside to go to the bathroom and then we walked up the stairs and sure enough, there was their mess.”
Hope I'm wrong but had a very bad feeling after that OT game that we won't win another game in this series.
Was disappointed in the performance of a few players in Game 3, namely Mike Green, MAJO and Semin. If team or certain players can't get up for this game, then I would hope more changes come this summer to get the right players.
this is going to be another game like the past 10 playoff games. nail biter to the end
Not sure why, but I get the sense one of the teams is going to break out for a comfortable win. Both teams have had their share of room to operate in this series at times. Odd man rushes that werent finished. One of these teams is bound to start finishing. Sure hope it's the Caps.
Laich, Backstrom, Semin, Green, Johansson, and Ovechkin have all done virtually nothing on the offensive side the last 3 games. I expect most of them to get on the scoreboard, and SOB to truly break out. Caps win 4-1. Lets ****ing go Caps! Caps in 6!
