He doesn't have to be ready to play #2 center, just to play in the NHL, to keep him. If they think he's ready, he should stay. He's the highest talent, by a good margin, of the prospect forwards.

Yet whatever holes might be on the Caps' roster should have no bearing on whether or not he should go back to Sweden.

From all reports, MoJo seems mature enough to handle the transition. He just needs time to learn the NA game and BB's system. Not unlike Backstrom, though you can't compare the two in terms of talent.

That said, does playing 4th line minutes help him? Do you put him on the team and wait for Flash or MP to falter? It's not as if either of those two are proven scoring line Cs.

4th line minutes? Backstrom first really showed his stuff skating 4th line minutes with Bradley and Brash. Skating with King or BGordon and Bradley might be fine. Bradley and BGordon are fast enough to skate with him. Bradley can both watch his back and finish some of his plays. Gordon can cover his rookie mistakes in his own end. King can make sure nobody picks on the kid.

So...yea, if MP is doing well enough to force the issue, Mojo can skate 4th line. Then the issue is roster space and Steckel....again.

My view on Sweden is that if he is good enough to play, he stays because the Caps need the depth. If he is not ready to play, depth is not a reason to keep him.

Agreed. I don't see a problem with starting a kid who is 19 on the fourth line. The cream will rise. If it doesn't, send him to Hershey if he is genuinely willing to follow through on statements that suggest he would be willing, otherwise send him to play a more meaningful role in Sweden.

Can someone give me an update on the whole Marcus Johansson/Mathieu Perreault situation?

Are both making the team? If only one, then which one has the upper hand right now?

Thanks!

Ha, seriously, from a fantasy hockey draft perspective if it's for one year, it's simply a gamble if you are looking for an additional Caps player.

I see.

Different question then:

Which one of the two do you think has more offensive upside? I'd like to hear some point estimates if possible.

Thanks!

The All Capitals Fantasy Discussion/Inquiries/Injuries Thread clearly needs a new name or flashing neon lights, or something, because no one ever sees it.

Perreault hasn't made the NHL yet. He's still in that callup/AHLer/maybe NHLer no man's land. Buyer beware.

Johansson is going to make it, although when he does so is a good question. He might be a #2, might be a #3 center. He also might take another hit to the head and be PCSed right out of hockey.

None of these questions have answers before your draft.

Perreault's future with Caps

Hey guys,

I've been following Perreault since his junior years where he was dominating.

I'm wondering what is his future with Washington? Obviously, Backstrom will be your no.1 for many years.

Do you think Perreault can be the no.2 over Johansson? Or move to the wing?

perreault is probably a backup nhl player til he can can go the kyle wilson route and move as a free agent to a team that has a job opening.

johansson is the real deal. eakin is coming shortly and is more of a 3C than is either johansson or perreault.

No, I really don't think he has a place in this organization with the big club. If MaJo sticks and Eakin makes the team next season, MP is the odd man out and I don't see him retained by the Caps.

I don't think it's that simple. I think his fading act after the first game or two hurt him, but I don't know that it's just as easy as saying he won't work here.

I think he probably doesn't, but you never know.

I think he has more drive and excitement for the game(85)....MOJO never smiles or shows any emotion, even when i met him he always looks confused.

A Swedish kid suddenly living in N.America. Gee, I wonder why he'd look confused and quiet.

I like Perreault a lot. But BB and the Caps don't seem to. I he'll be a 60 pt C for some NHL team down the road. He has excellent hockey sense.

His highs are fairly impressive...but I'm not sure he'll put it all together in DC (if he does at all).

Perreault ended up with 6 assists in a 8-3 win....

I just don't see the Caps can bypass this guy....

Hurry up or another team might grab him on waivers....too good to pass....specially for a team desperately searching for a 2nd line centerman.

Plus....he is ready to roll.....not like a certain prospect.

MP will be up within a month or two hopefully to center the 3rd line not sure where that will put Flash...but yeah I do think he'll be up sooner rather than later...dang...6 assists tonight?

MP has some skills, but he's just not built for NHL grind. He's like 4 feet tall and unless you have St. Louis-like skills you're probably not going to make it in this league.

MP could be the undisputed #1 C right now for the following teams...for half a season at a time:
-NYR
-NYI
-TOR
-CBJ
-STL
-NSH
-PHX
-EDM
-CGY

Somewhere, he will be an NHL regular next season, IMO.
