Smid has a concussion

Ladislav Smid didn't skate today because of a concussion.a result of the punch from Avery..no real timetable on return..

More fines have to be coming. Nothing official has been announced by the NHL. The Dubinsky fine came from the Rangers writers.

The NHL's lost its conscience. A player (Peckham) on bench when Avery/Smid starts, then on-ice charging Avery, then fighting. No discipline?

That's my point.

Yeah mate i know, i jumped the gun because i was really pissed when i first saw his comments. I was never his biggest fan but to be honest this isn't what should have him canned as a Ranger.

I don't know what you mean about win lose cups?

Tip for myself to follow dont overreact and dont post when angry

I like EC. I bet EC and Avery are good friends, and that EC's comments were matter of factly, knowing Avery. Still,... he should have kept quiet on the matter.

It's a shame, that's all we're talking about,... being he had his best game of the season. He was the energizer bunny out there.

Gross insinuated that EC and Avery aren't part of the same "crowd" in the locker room anyways.

Still, that doesn't make it a big deal. Pretty sure lots of successful teams have had players on them that didn't like each other. May not even be any kind of "dislike" as much as it's a "yeah well that's Avery, he does that stuff, but he's still a pretty good player for us"

meh. EC needs to keep it out of the media but as long as everything is handled in house

I loved this bit...

MacIntyre said Avery was going to meet someone bigger and tougher than him and get his clock cleaned. Smid is 63 and 226 and was wearing a visor when he challenged the 5 11 and 195 lb Avery.

Love it. Maybe if Edmonton could win a game or two, they'd get some of the sand outta their hooha.

I guess MacIntyre would be happier if Avery took on Gagner, Eberle or Cogliano.

Lol yeah...or Hall. I'd love to see the reaction there..

Avery could cure cancer, and he'd still be demonized for it.

so, the way i see it, smid wanted to "act" like a tough guy and paid the price for it.
Note to smid: next time know your role.

I only watched the 1st & part of the 2nd at the TGIFridays in Penn Station on the way to that Giants game, so i didn't see it live.

From the video posted in the thread, Smid has his gloves off and they are both engaged. I wouldn't call it a sucker punch.

What Domi did to Samuelsson is a sucker punch.

Averys a lightning rod. On the hf boards alone you could write a novels worth of posts about this incident.

I know generally it shouldnt matter, but of course I cant help but think that if it wasnt Avery would the response be like this? Damn that guy is unpopular with players, fans and refs alike.

Im sure its tough to look at this objectviely for some.

Adande said no sucker punch, "Don't backpedal away like Carmelo Anthony. Hang in there and fight."

Bill Plaschke said it was, something about NHL protocol. Tony Reali said it wasn't.

lol. I was expecting an anti-fighting "this sport will never be mainstream with violence like this" tirade.

63 fighting majors for Avery and I don't think he's ever fought anyone smaller than he is!

I challenge the stat saying Avery is 5'11, I would think more like 5'9-5'10 but whatever

Missed in all this, was the look Renney has with his tongue outside the corner of his mouth, looking coy at he disaster unfolding. Priceless.
