Snow & Wang wanted Weight as coach > Weight still wants to play so Cappy is named on "Interim" basis & during meeting Weight expressed that the mood with the youngsters have changed in regards to Gordon, so once Scott lost the support of the young core he was essentially done!
Remember Weight is the "Eyes & Ears" in the locker room for Snow & the kids trusted Weight & respect Dougie more then Gordon
The biggest injustice to this whole thing, is now the new coach has the benefit of coming in after the worst stretch of scheduling, and can enjoy a ton of home games. Of course, the people that called for this firing will point to that as being proof that Gordon needed to go.
Islanders only have Capuano hired for now "INTERIM"
Doug Weight had a meeting with Snow early this morning & expressed that he still wants to play & that "Gordon" needed to go because the "Younger" players have begun to shut him out & not see eye 2 eye with him on line combo's & PP Time & Ice Time..
Doug Weight had a very big hand in what happened today & believe me he will be in the running for the job during the summer.
Now the team is being "guided" with input from a guy who was never much more than an average player at best and has been a big zero in every way conceivable since he arrived on the Island. Oh, and he "still wants to play"
C'mon now.... Doug Weight was a bit better than "average at best"! Sure, he's way past due for retirement, but the guy has over 1000 points in this league.

I know the fan base is mad, but let's not go around doing things like calling Doug Weight no better than an "average player at best".

Fortunes will start to change with the better schedule and guys coming back, and you can't do any worse than these past 10 games. You could hire my cat to replace Gordon and the team will play better, because firing a coach sends a message to the team in some way or form, at some point we will regress back, but I see us going 10-6-4 over the next 20 and I won't credit Capuano but I will credit change, schedule and getting some guys back.
If we kept Gordon, I think it would be 4-14-2 just because it sends the message that the season doesn't matter.
Comeau and Bailey were clearly ruined by Gordon that is what stands out to me.
In fairness to Gordon, we added no one geared for his system and took 2 guys out in Bergey and Park and I think Thompson is more suited for Gordon than Konopka, so gradually his job became more challenging.
I also know that Gordon was overruled on the Sim signing.
Its like ****ing Groundhog's day. I thought they fired Nolan because Gordon was so good at developing the youngsters..... oh wait
This organization is a ****ing **** show. I cannot stand the isles at this point. iIt just makes me so mad to see what these ass clowns have done and continue to do to this frnbachise. Thanks for nothing Chucky.

I tend to think all teams in sports have this to some degree, unless the team is just very young, but it also seems to me Snow left Gordon to dry, by not signing the types of players that work well for Gordon like Begin, Halpern, or Torres and letting guys like Bergey, Park and Thompson go.
If you give a forechecking specialist coach a bunch of PP Specialists, he is going to flounder.

I was thinking along similar lines. With a bunch of home games coming up, even if the Isles manage to go .500 during that time, it'll look like the firing was a good decision since the new coach "turned things around", even though it might have more to do with the fact they're actually at home now.
At the end of the day, Snow's insisted their aim is the playoffs this season. He said it in the summer, and he repeated it during his announcement following firing Gordon. If the team doesn't make the playoffs, shouldn't the man who assembled this team be on the hook?

This. I mean, fatfaced grey haired ********* Snow can't really expect Islander fans(and please, don't label me as a fan anymore Garth, I'm an observer) to buy this crap, right?

Unless he has a Turgeon-esque trade up his sleeve, chances at playoffs this year are about the same as John Lennon singing the National anthem before the Isles/Lightning game.
Honestly, I think Charles Wang watched the Giants-Cowboys game yesterday, saw how much of a difference a new coach made for Dallas, and wanted to see if it could happen to his team. Can anyone seriously doubt this scenario?

Trading a players sends a message too.... so does sending down a clearly struggling goaltender..... so does adding legitimate NHL talent during the offseason.
This smacks of premature reactionary decision making. Like firing a legitimate GM and hiring the backup goaltender.
Comeau and Bailey weren't ruined by anyone. Both those guys had the best stretches of their careers under Gordon. Comeau is just an enigma (on him) and Bailey is still young.
I fail to see how this move makes the team better, nor do I see how it repairs a ongoing image problem, or how it ends up making this team more attractive to potential coaches, GM's or UFA's.
I will agree with that scenario.... he is likening Gordon to Wade Phillips which is ridiculous, but at the same time that is how Wang probably thinks. Wow if I change the coach, I will come back in a few weeks and pound the Kings.

If the shoe fits...
The guy has been around forever and has never IMO been worthy of the praise heaped upon him on this board. He had a few good seasons statistically, may years ago and was never what could be considered a true impact player, either offensively or defensively. Basically, an average player well past his prime today.
I'm a little late to the party, and what I want to say has already been said...

But at the same time, I am glad they fired him, only for the reason, that I cant wait to see who the genius Isles fans/Snow supporters blame when the team loses 20 games in a row at some point this season.
This move should confirm for everybody that this team has been basically set back to the beginning of the rebuild three years ago. There has been no progress whatsoever.
Yet the thing that pisses me off, more than anything else, is the Snow statement - we needed to go in a new direction, we still intend to fight for the playoffs. If I saw that man I would want to sucker punch him the face and then spit in his face as he lies on the ground bleeding. What direction is that moron? the same direction you have taken us in for three years by adding no ****ing talent? Whoever actually intends for god knows what reason to go to the game on Wed. should booo this team off the ice and start every kind of chant possible like "Snow must Go" and "Sell the team."

With that being said, he needed to be fired, the injuries are very real and the 4-1-2 start actually hurt him, but when a team drops 10 in a row in any sport, unless the coach is "recently made", they get canned.
Recently made would mean winning the Stanley Cup or getting in the final 4 the previous year. So firing Jacques Martin would not happen, but Detroit might even fire Babcock in similar scenario.
I think Gordon is a good coach (can't say great, he never has made the playoffs, but seems good), but this was the right move.

Impatience is why this team has been bad for the last 15+ years.
Of course, I'm not in the room and don't know the details, but it's a tough day to be an Islanders fan after an already tough couple weeks.

"The biggest problem this team has is confidence".. GS
I cannot believe how they treat Botta. Agree or disagree with him, Isles management fails to understand that he's the only person offering true coverage of the team and fans look to him for coverage. When Snow refuses to grant him an interview or Isles PR doesn't provide him with access to conference calls, they are only hurting their own fans.
I lay the blame on Wang. I won't spend a $1 on this team until Wang is gone.

In the Islanders history, we've only really had three good coaches. One legendary, and two very good ones. I put Scott right up there with Lavy, and IMHO he was even better than Lavy.
There is no doubt in my mind he will get scooped up by another team and lead them to (at least) the Stanley Cup finals within the next 3 years.
Stupid stupid reactionary move, but that is what we have come to expect from Wanger.

Boston or Calgary for Flash...
I live in Raleigh, 30 minutes from the 'Canes.

Dear Wang,
Sell the team already!
Announce that you're moving it to Quebec.
Just do something so that this dead horse (dead horse of a team and dead horse of a fan base) can be shot.

Weight's a guy who you can tell is a good player both by looking at the stat sheet and watching him play. No one's calling him a Hall of Famer or anything but he was a top-line talent in this league for many years. Arguing otherwise is baseless.

There are certain things in professional sports and in life that are the "right move" but not necessarily a "good move" This is one of them
You can't fire the owner
You can't fire GM midseason
You can't shake up the roster with a trade with no real assets besides draft picks and propsects
You can't promote a stud from Bridgeport to make a difference.
You can't even bench Comeau or Wisniewski for their constant errors with no depth.
This was the only move that could be made. I do think Weight is referrring to Comeau and Bailey they seem lost on the ice and I think Gordon lost those 2 guys, I am sure Moulson and JT had their input too as they are close to Weight.

Please stop, I almost saw the light at the end of the tunnel because you said this. We all know that wouldn't happen but ******* it I would give up my left nut for Ron Francis to coach this team.
Francis is a Canes' lifer, and a probable coaching successor there.
