Smid with Concussion, Peckham injured Wrist

per Tencers twitter: http://twitter.com/dantencer/status/4249660281593858

Losing both Smid and Peckham is going to be devastating for an already ugly defence.

Who gets called up?

Whitney-Foster
Gilbert-Vandeermeer
Strudwick-

..ugh.

Knowing the Oilers they'll only call up once defenceman when they should really make two calls and postpone Jacques' call-up.

We just lost our 2 best defensemen, besides Whiteny. I would think 2 of Belle, Petiote, or Plante, depending on the extent of Peckhams and Smids injuries.

Wow. Just wow. Hopefully neither are too serious. 0 chance of climbing out of this slump with a bottom 4 of Foster-Vandermeer Strudwick-(Belle, Petiot, Petry). This is a nightmare scenario for a team trying to break in 3 great prospects. This season could not end soon enough.

Petiot and one of Chorney/Motin/Plante are deserving based on their play in the AHL.

Petry isn't ready yet for the NHL. He isn't so great in the defensive zone in the AHL.

Petiot for sure would be a callup if I was in charge and the 2nd would be Chorney/Motin/Plante.

Not for the crowd that wants a guarantee of either Couturier or Larsson, which I must admit, I'm quickly becoming a member. That's the very first thing I thought of when seeing this thread about a minute ago. Surprisingly not even a faint hint of frustration overcame me.

He's obviously aware of the Oilers play style and is trying to emulate it. Smart move, sounds like a match.

Well Peckham has already being playing with a bad wrist, so as long as it's not broken I suspect he will muscle it out. Even Smid, I think they have to wait until tomorrow or Wednesday morning before making the call. Have to go on IR for 7 days to call someone up, so they might not want to go that route yet. Maybe one guy goes on the IR?

I would like to see Belle and Plante come up. But like it was mentioned earlier it will most likely just be one of the 2 because they will have to bring up JFJ soon.

Oilers will refuse to call anybody again.

Whitney-Gilbert
Foster-Vandermeer
Strudwick-MacIntyre

Keep up the good work Tambo.

Well I wonder what happens now. They have to put someone on IR so they can open a roster space. My guess is they could also make a call to another team see if they would toss a guy on waivers for the Oil. I hope Smid's concussion isn't too serious

I'm completely on board with tanking the season. However I don't think an entire season of utter futility is a good environment for the youth. They need to be sheltered not hung out to dry. You can see the frustration in the entire team. I don't care at all about wins but no-one has fun being embarrassed night in and night out.

How is this team, with a healthy Hemsky and Khabi and a competent Horcoff, seemingly worse than the post-Hemsky team of last year?

...

so anyone know who gets called up?

I know Petry's defensive play has not been great, but since Edmonton is not exactly going to win the Cup this year, why not give him a game with the big club?

...could be a blessing in disguise. You call up two of Belle, Petiot, or Plante and they proceed to outplay guys like Strudwick or Vandermeer. It makes it really difficult for Renney/Tambellini to send them down once Smid and Peckham return. It sucks losing them in the mean time, but in the long run we could be better than before they got injured.

Petry for me then maybe Belle next. I think the other AHL D-men play second + bottom pairing minutes.

To replace Peckham's toughness - Plante.

To replace Smid's skillset - Petry/Belle.

Chorney is not what we need in the line-up. An undersized soft puck-mover.

Todd Nelson was on the Team last week and was talking about how Petry has a long way to go before making the NHL. His decisions with the puck are good, but away from the puck he needs work. Not sure that is what we need at this point, we already did that with Chorney.

I think it's Todd Nelson, the coach of the Barons?

Petry would be last choice for me. So far this year he has been the worst defensively out of all the dmen in the AHL.
