I have no problem with a 7-9 team making he playoffs as a division winner, and there's a very very good chance my team is the one who goes on the road to play them, which I still don't have a problem with.

Great win for the birds

We played the best when the game counted the most, games like these is where our team can evolve.

Im pretty confident the Eagles can run the table with two home games left.Getting that second spot would be pretty sweet

Of the big 4 sports in America, they all do the same thing. Hold an entire season of games that do NOTHING except set-up the playoff tournament. Which is kinda stupid if you think about it. There is little benefit to finishing top in the league when the goal really is to just make the playoffs. (Which is why I firmly believe MLB has the best playoff system out of the 4 major sports.)

Just look at the Flyers last season. Underachieved all year, finished 0.500 and made the Cup Finals. History remembers the Stanley Cup winners, not the President's Trophy winners.

I hate baseball playoff systems. Only 8 teams out of 32 or whatever teams is crazy.

Not in my opinion. 26 teams play 150 games for nothing.

PS I am a casual Blue Jays fan, see why I don't like it?

Not to mention no salary cap

I bet if you pick 10 teams right now, you can get the 8 playoff teams right for the end of the year !!! MLB is the worst imo !

The playoff system is awesome. To be honest, until there is economic parity (which I realize is both a pipe dream and something that would hurt the Phillies) then there is no reason to have more than that make the playoffs. Sure, a team on a budget will make the playoffs every once in a while but then the free agents will demand big money and the team will rot away.

But, for now, baseball doesn't waste anyone's time by having scrub teams make it.

why even have 32 teams then? Almost like a development league for the Yankees/Red Sox/Phillies/etc

That's the beauty of it. You have teams like the Pirates that are good enough to help bring other team's prospects along.

But, seriously, the the regular season in baseball is so long that it really separates the contenders from the scrubs. In any sport, the more teams that make the playoffs the cheaper the regular season becomes.

Look at hockey, teams seeded 5-8th virtually never make the SCF let alone win the Cup. The playoffs go one far too long and, even with upsets, a quality team always comes out on top. When is the last time, if ever, a team that wasn't a top 4 seed win the Cup? The bottom 4 seeds obviously can upset a team or two but once it gets to the SCF they are a non-factor.

Sorry Toronto, but all leagues should emulate the MLB's playoffs. Playoffs are a privelege, not a right. And the NFL should be absolutely ashamed, disgraced, that a team with a sub .500 record may make theirs.

Coleman has been playing well, but Allen has proven to be a legit NFL starter out of the gate, and a defensive rookie of the year candidate. It's a big loss.

The NFL usually gets it right though. Every game is a playoff and it's almost clockwork that 10-6 will get you in. Sure, it sucks that the NFC West is so poor but it is very rare that the entirely of a division is total bollocks.

This is why I kinda like the league table in European soccer (at least the EPL). They can play different cups and stuff, but the league champ is simply the team with the highest points after facing every other team twice, once at home and once on the road.

It's such a smart way of doing it.

Over here, it's all revenue bull**** about playoffs playoffs playoffs. Worse, the playoffs last like a month and more then half the teams make it in. It's stupid. What's the point of the regular season? To make the playoffs.

I'd prefer the regular season actually matter a little more. Now it's all seeding and home field bull****.
You're kidding yourself if you don't think revenue rules the day in the EPL.

While the domestic leagues generally don't have playoffs... there's a LOT of effort put into Champions League and whatever the new name for UEFA is. Not to mention the absurdity that is FA Cup in England.

But seriously, there's some "diva" players in the NFL but none hold a candle to Brett. That being said I hope he gets a definitive career ending injury tonight. I don't like to wish people harm, but I just want him to go away and dude doesn't know how to. Plus I don't want him starting against the Eagles. It's a game they should win, but it's more certain if he's not there.

I have yo disagree. Allen has had some rookie struggles. He is not very physical and struggles tackling sometimes. He is a ballhawk who needs to develop other parts of his game.

In my honest opinion, every team that doesnt win the Championship plays the regular season for nothing.

When 16 teams make the playoffs, some with sub-500 records, the entire regular season is a waste. The entire regular season is set up as seeding for the playoffs and little else, heck, teams that tread water at 500 get into the playoffs with teams who get over 100 points, it's madness. At least in baseball, the best teams win the division and the best record that's not a division winner makes it. It's a beautiful system. The regular season MATTERS, and every playoff team EARNED their spot.
