A couple things...

1. The hip. He got hip replacement surgery which means he was in quite a bit of pain. Dealing with constant pain is no joke... Don't sleep right, don't sleep much. Constantly irritated. Throw in whatever pain killers he had to use to deal with it as well.

2. The team... Torts is seeing his vision come together here. A LOT of players have taken significant leaps in their game. I think he realizes that he has a legitimate chance to go far with this team now. That has to excite anyone.

I also think he realizes that he's starting to project his desire on the way the team is being shaped up. Hard working is probably the best way to describe our team (most periods, anyway ) and that's the Torts M.O. He's seeing Dubinsky's move to wing pay dividends- he's budding into a legitimate 1st/2nd line power forward. Tort's decision to move him to wing will help this team for years to come IMO.

A happy Torts is a great thing for our current team. Instill the value of hard work into our young guys like Arty, MDZ and Stepan, with guys like Callahan leading by example, and you have a great teacher to shape a good homegrown core.

In number 1, add the pain of the team to it, too...

Does anybody know whats going on? Change of diet? Is he participating more in his own drills or is it something serious?
Maybe you should send him some flowers and a get well card, just in case.

Something about his demeanor this off season and towards the end of lasts eason really made me think of Tom Coughlin and how he really started listening to players and changed himself to accomadate them and lead them better as a coach. I honestly like Torts as a coach now it is looking like a real good move bringing him along although he certainly had previously earned his clown moniker a few had bestowed on him.

I thought of this thread last night during the game. The camera cut to Torts and he was in the middle of a coughing spell.
