i could live with that, if the 2nd is what it will take to seal the deal lets put it in there. burke obviously has no interest in picks anyways.

gunnarson + aulie/ mikus + sjostrom + 2nd '11

shall i fax over the paperwork?

Oilers say no thanks, we already have enough defensemen that can't play defense properly

Ok. So they want defense. The untouchables up front are Eberle, Hall, Paajarvi and Hemsky.

The guys they might move for the right price would be Penner, Gagner.

Cogliano is off to a horrible start...Oilers fans, is Cogliano on the block for a d-man?
Too bad the Habs traded O'Byrne to Colorado. I would have liked to see JF Jacques with the Habs.

Brian Lee could be had for peanuts.

But also in part of a larger deal for a top 6 guy like penner too would work

like foligno and lee for penner??????

Or Cogliano for Lee + late round pick????

There's absolutely 0 chance Ottawa trades Rundblad.

Couldn't the Oilers just sign a guy like Jay Mckee for cheap instead of giving assets for a D and thus not messing with their long term plans as suggested in the OP ?

Not sure if Mckee would be an upgrade but that's just a thought.

most fans believe that if they called up players like Belle, Petry, etc. there defence would be much better, however if were going for another high pick sucking on defence isnt that bad

Milan Michalek + Brian Lee For Dustin Penner.

Get a speedy top 6 forward and a young dman in search of a fresh start, top 4 potential.

Don't need a decent winger and a crappy d-man.

Need a decent d-man only.

I have been a Lee hater the day he was drafted, but not until this year in the preseason and camp games, he surprised me alot, he was very responsible and poised and even physical at times, the reason why he isn't getting a chance with Ottawa is basically Management and Coaching have a thing against him plus he isn't what Ottawa needs right now on D with all the spots locked up.

If Komi agrees to waive his NTC, how about this is a starting point:

To Edm: Komi

To Tor: Penner

Yeah, I don't think the Oilers are so much looking to upgrade their defensive prospect depth (I mean, if good prospects are to be had, they wouldn't say no) but improve their current defence so they don't get blown out every night. If the Oilers were wanting to build for the future, they'd be bringing up Belle and Petry and letting them play, but they want to keep them down in the AHL to keep their new affiliate strong. What I think the Oilers want to see is an upgrade to their current blueline.

This is more along the lines of what I believe the Oilers are looking into. A solid guy who can put in some minutes and stabilize things so that the Oilers are more competitive, not a #1-2 guy or a game-breaker or anything.

Some possibilities:
Andrew Ference: Boston will be looking to cut some salary upon the returns of Savard and Sturm. Ference could handle a Top 4 role in Edmonton and likely be had for a pick or marginal prospect.

Craig Rivet: Rivet struggled badly to start the year (Even being scratched a few times) but would be a massive upgrade along the Oiler blueline and Buffalo is already carrying 8 d-men.

Ian White: Has really struggled as of late but the Flames and Oilers very rarely make deals and Calgary might be hesitant to move him to Edmonton without asking for a significant price Edmonton is unlikely to meet.

Mike Commodore: Hefty price-tag for struggling blueliner who would maybe not even be that big of an upgrade over Jim Vandermeer makes him an unlikely target.

Colin White or Bryce Salvador: If New Jersey ever gets all their players back healthy, they will have some cap issues to deal with. Either White or Salvador would stabilize Edmonton's blueline in a big way, but it remains to be seen if the Devils are willing to move White or if Salvador ever gets healthy.

Matt Walker: With Sean O'Donnell and Andrej Meszaros peforming quite ably as Philly's third defensive pairing and Walker coming back from injury to be a $1.7 million spare, Walker could be had by the Oilers. Whether he's any better than what they have is questionable, though.

Eric Brewer: Depending on the play of Nikita Nikitin, the Blues may be reluctant to assign him to the AHL when their blueline gets healthy, possibly making Brewer expendable (I have no idea how he's playing this year). He played the best hockey of his career in Edmonton, and there might be a fit there.

Keith Ballard: Has been a very expensive healthy scratch lately ($4.2 million and sitting in place of Aaron Rome). Vancouver and Edmonton seldom make trades but maybe there's a possibility there, though Ballard would likely be more expensive, asset-wise and cap-wise, than the Oilers are interested in.

I think it's an overpayment from Edmonton, but probably that's what it would take to get Burns. I'd think long and hard about that deal.

Belle would have to clear re-entries. Him at less than league minimum might get him claimed. Same with Petiot. Petry, I just don't want up yet. He would end up playing with Foster, and I don't want that exposure for Petry.

So Gunnarson + 2nd in 2011(should be early) for Penner?

or how about something around Aulie and Brule?

Brule is worth more than Aulie. Aulie's value is probably closer to Cogliano.

Penner, Cogs and a late pick for Gunnar, Toronto's 2nd in 2011 and Keith Aulie.

Or I would be fine with Penner for Gunnar and the 2nd.

Cogliano could probaly fetch alot,i think it would be either him or Hemsky if the team doesnt get any better but thats later in the season. I dont think a trade would really help with the defense the team just has to buy in to the system.
