I wouldn't mind a package of Penner+ for Burns would work - what's the status of Kobasew for Wild fans - is he available?

Gunnarsson for Omark.

Omark could play with Kadri.

Why? Jacques isn't that good. He'd be a healthy scratch most nights.

Pair him with Whitney - and he'll flourish IMO. We have Whitney & Gilbert who can move the puck, but we need a guy like Komi to complement them so they can play their game.

Or something along the lines of,

To Edm:
Brooks Orpik

To Pitt:
Dustin Penner

Would this make sense?
I think it does, imo

You can have Staios back...for our 3rd! How about Regehr for Hemsky?

This would be awesome from an Edmonton perspective. I don't think the Pens are looking to move BO though, are they?

Staios isn't worth a third, and wouldn't really upgrade anything at all. Hemsky is worth more to Edmonton than Regehr would be, so no.

Burns isn't going to Edmonton, considering he's our #1 d-man and our D is extremely thin. If a d-man was to be moved, its either Zanon or Barker, and its highly unlikely we'd move either one at this point because we'd be going with 2 rookies in our top-6 D. Kobasew, he's probably as available as anyone, but why the Oilers would want to trade for a rental is beyond me.

Too many guys on our back end are too slow. Vandermeer is awful, Strudwick is awful, Gilbert, while skilled, has not been playing well. Smid, while good, has not been playing overly well either.

If a deal goes down with Toronto, it will be for Penner IMO, because of Burke's history and penchant for big forwards. That said, any deal would likely involve pieces that we fans probably will not expect. It COULD be Kaberle, given Edmonton's past history trying to get him. However, I think it is far more likely that they would want a young blueliner, someone who fits in with the long term plan. Gunnarson has had good games and bad ones, Aulie is an attractive prospect. After that, the pool gets thin. Unless someone is asleep at the wheel and Burke pulls a fast one. (Which I doubt considering the scrutiny that the Oilers management is under right now)

How about Staios for a 7th?

Or I would be fine with Penner for Gunnar and the 2nd.
Not much interest in Cogliano.
Penner for Gunnar and the pick is good tho.

No thanks.

I'd counter with Barker + Kobasew. What would you give us for those two?

There is a way but it would cost you something significant. Think along the lines of MPS , Gagner , Eberle ect

The best value I've heard in this thread is Penner for Orpik.

1) There's only a 500k disparity in salary, which could easily be ironed out with Pittsburgh dumping a bit of salary on Edmonton

2) Penner could be a powerhouse with the Penguins in a number of roles

3) Orpik is definitely a tradeable option with a top 4 of Martin/Michalek/Letang/Goligoski remaining after his departure

4) Orpik with Whitney gives Edmonton a legitimate #1 defense pairing to work with

To PIT:
- Penner

To EDM:
- Orpik
- 500k-1M in salary (Kennedy? Adams?)

Minny is pretty thin on defense too arent they? Can they afford to give up Barker...and as for Kobasew we have 12 3/4 liners on the roster already.
I like Barker except for he's kind of like Penner. Big talented guy but has Gretzky's mean streak.

Let's not get too carried away here. The thread is about defencemen without expending our important long term pieces. So guys like Gudbranson etc. are too costly (and probably unavailable as well).

Burns is within the division, so that's a non starter for the Wild.

I doubt the Pens trade Orpik, they (at least their fans) have been adamant that his style of play is unique and very beneficial to the Pens D.

A deal made will hopefully be for an available top 4 defenceman, top 2 is too costly, and we have an abundance of bottom 2 guys in the NHL/AHL.

We're not really that thin at D, when healthy. I would say that D is where our prospect pool would be the deepest.

So yes, we could afford to give up Barker. In fact, if you are looking for a package, we'll give you Barker + Stoner for Foster...

I want Fozzie back.

Fixing a hole by making another.

Were stretched pretty thin at center already.

What are the chances of Omark being moved? And if so, is there any of the Leafs D core you guys would be interested in for him?

The Kings and Oilers could be great trading partners here.

One Mitchell is healthy, the Kings have a surplus of D and could use Hemsky or Penner

I suck at proposals, but I am sure something could be worked out
