we lack anyone who can puck pucks on net with enough accuracy and velocity to create rebound chances. thats where alot of pp goals are scored, in the dirty area near the net. we lack that shot from the top that can create those chances.
solution
play the guy at the top with the best shot (and its not rozy) or do we need to go out and find a shot ?
i like this 5 guy unit until we can find a cannon. (hello vtank 5 game call up )

the pp should be about setting up our best shooter. if they cheat, that opens up room for others. gaby is the key. he has a world class shot. we need him to use it.

our pp features lots of standing around, little movement with purpose and alot of failure to create screens. i do see alot of pretty perimiter passing, cycling without shooting, guys on the wrong side so they cant shoot off the pass, and hard arounds to no one.

KISS. keep it simple stupid. the powerplay should be all about 5 simple things.
keep the feet moving
crisp passing
create traffic infront
find the lanes
shots on net (and not from bad angles that miss the net and go out of the zone)
rinse. repeat.
oh, and on the 5 on 3. there should be opportunity for bang-bang cross crease slamdunks down low type of goals or gaby snipes from above the circles. were getting neither.
our point men need to play wider and further towards the blueline. if they cheat down too much, they make themselves easier to defend using a simple triangle 3 man rotation. stay high and make teh defenders cheat out. that opens up the down low off the pass from the wall.

I understand your solutions, but frankly, the KISS method is only the best solution here because we don't have the talent to do anything more sophisticated. The real issue is we don't have a real PP QB. We don't have any sense of misdirection. We don't have anyone capable of forcing the opposing PKers to have to defend more than just the obvious shot or pass. There is no mystery to what the Rangers will do on the PP. They're very predictable, because there is no one on the team that can consistently thread the needle with a pass they won't expect. Stepan has shown flashes of it, and hopefully will be able to do this one day, and the same can be said about Del Zotto (although in his case, he simply doesn't make the right decision some of the times).
Really, you need to do on a PP what you should be able to do at even strength, except to a higher degree: keep the defense on their toes. Don't give them what they expect unless you're absolutely certain you can execute it better than they can defend it.
I do agree that Gaborik should be on the point. Something like, except with Callahan moving to the "in front of the net" role after the faceoff/gaining of the blueline.

Stepan looked great creating motion and passing the puck. The sky isn't falling and the PP is 1000 times better than it was under Renney. If we didn't have $12 mill tied up in Redden and Drury, we'd have another scorer on the PP...
This team is not skilled enough to do ticky-tack bang bang passing plays for empty net goals.
We need to move the puck around until we get an open shot, shoot and collapse on the net. Rinse and repeat. Get as many of these opportunities out of a power play as we can, regardless of whether or not we are scoring.

while i dont agree with the name i agree with the premise and due to a lack of better, obvious options, might be satisfied with this one.
del zotto is young, sure. But he doesnt looked poised back there. he looks hesitant and over-protective of the puck. once yesterday he took the puck deep. if he could do that more often it would be a godsend but hes too worried about pucks getting past him. id like to see him off the pp - not have to worry about shouldering the teams offensive attacks and focus more on just being a solid 2-way 5 on 5 d-man. I think with time the PP Poise will come.

Well i for one would like to see eminger. Lets see what kind of shot he can get off back there. We've got him on the team and looks like he'll be there for at least the foreseeable future, might as well gie him a run. if i remember right he's got a hard low shot, perfect for our frolov's, artie;s and boyle;s to clean up in front.
Problem #1 is the inabilty to transport the pick into the zone. Only Staal, Dubinsky, and Gaborik can successfully gain the zone without dumping the puck. Teams know we don't have guys who can carry the puck and break down a defense on their own. So they pressure in the neutral zone and force us to dump the puck. How often do you see a Rangers PP where at least half of it is spent just trying to gain the blueline? Hard to set-up, and set-up well if you're chasing the puck.
and last night on the 5on3, where was gaby ? on the other side where he couldnt shoot it off the pass.

And once again your wrong about the cross crease passes. They tried them at least twice on that 5 on 3. One of them Dubinsky looked to have an open side of the net to shoot at and missed badly, the other passes just didn't work out.
And regarding V-tank...how many powerplay goals does he have in Hartford?
i think the people calling for more shots would be the first ones complaining about blocked shots killing the play and creating short handed scoring oppritunities
we need more shooting lanes...the guys arent shooting because you dont shoot into shin pads on the PP
they dont have the skill for beautiful passing plays so they need to move their feet more and continue to set up dubi on the boards. Dubi is in a less dangerous lane and should be encouraged to pull the trigger frequently
gaborik should be the same thing on the opposite side, but also be ready to attack rebounds gaborik style with a filthy snipe
Stepan might be the only player capable of the "beautiful pass" PP goal, the rest aren't good enough passers so we will get our PP goals largely from rebounds and garbage infont of the net
I hate to point this out but was obvious on the 5-3 pp dubi kept getting setup on the right side but couldnt control the puck. Dubi has been playing great an id like to see him at the point besides down low for the one timeer maybe swap him and gabby..

Way too much passing. I said in the GDT that perhaps Dubi should be running the PP just because his playmaking skills have been excellent lately, and his passes have been accurate. I don't think you can go wrong with Dubi feeding Gaborik down low.
DZ isn't as effective at the point as he was last year, he's hesitating a little and overpassing. The other point men are having trouble getting shots through or are not shooting the puck with enough authority (ahem, Gilroy). If Rozy shoots the puck like he did in the beginning of the season before his shoulder injury, he can help with this problem.

yeah, not sure what game or 5 on 3 you were watching but i saw gaborik spend alot of time on the left side which is exactly where he should not be on a 5 on 3 or any pp for that matter.
as for the cross crease passes on a 5 on 3, thats exactly what we should be doing. we cant pull it off though because we never draw the defenders out away from the tight triangle. they just pack it in since they know we cant/wont shoot from the top and our point men refuse to spread it out( since they also know they cant hit the net from the blue line .)
because we tried twice and it didnt work doesnt mean it wont work. this is basic pp theory here. on the 5 on 3 the down low guys should have that slam dunk cross crease pass available if you can get the defenders moving and can create an odd man advantage down low. that requires crisp passing and movement however, something we dont/didnt do.
lastly, vtank has the same number of pp goals that these guys have combined
