Traded a 3rd round pick in the 2011 draft to Dallas for the negotiating rights to Brad Richards. Draft is June 24-25. It gives the Rangers 6-7 days to negotiate with Pat Morris.
Signed Richards to 5 year deal worth $32.5M. $6.5m cap hit. Front-loaded deal. NMC in the first 3 years. Limited NTC the last 2 years. Richards will need to take a pay cut in Dallas. He won't sign there unless the team is sold. The lenders are trying to sell the team. It could happen next week, next month or next fall. TB doesn't have the cash. LA is scared to do anything. Rangers it is.

Rangers keep Blake until the end of camp and send him to the AHL clearing $4M. A Blake buyout carries a $2M cap hit for 11-12. The Rangers will probably have more than 1 arbitration case so they could buyout Blake in August if they wanted to go in that direction. CBA allows teams to buyout players outside the ordinary buyout period in June if they have more than 1 arbitration case.
In the summer cap,MDZ,McD and MZ will have a pro-rated cap hit based on the number of days they spent in the NHL this season.
Ruslan Fedotenko comes to camp on a tryout with the contract already done. It can't signed and registered until the last day of camp.
Erik Christensen becomes a cap casualty at some point to sign a defenseman.
Rangerboy, did you make that chart with Redden's cap hit on the summer cap? Also, wouldn't it be a bad idea to give Callahan and Dubinsky each a 4 year deal? Because I wouldn't want to negotiate with both of them during the same summer because players usually want raises and having it both during the same summer might cause cap problems?

RangerBoy, what would Anaheim's rationale be for taking on Drury?
Jason Blake has another season on his contract at $4M cap/$3M salary. Anaheim acquired him last season to dump Giguere and give Hiller the clear cut #1 job. Anaheim GM Bob Murray is close to Brian Burke who loves Drury. Sather is close to Burke. Sather and Murray have made deals in the last year. Small ones but still deals. Even with Drury's struggles, there has to be some GM's which still think Drury can contribute in the right situation which is not playing on the 4th line with two minor leaguers. They swap their problem for the Rangers problem. Drury has a NMC and a home in southern California. He would waive for the OC. Anaheim needs another center behind Getzlaf and Koivu. Anaheim is not an upper limit team so the cap hit won't hurt them. The upper limit is going up by $3M. If Anaheim wants to bridge the $2M gap between Drury's and Blake's salary or the Rangers take back SPC's,something could be worked out. Sheldon Brookbank is making $800,000 next season/$750,000 cap. Maybe the Rangers take him in the deal. Sather has made these moves before.
If league revenue did increase by 14% this year, and the NHLPA exercised their bump, the cap would also increase by 14%.
The players share of revenue is determined by the total NHL revenue #.
Quote:
[T]he players are guaranteed 54 percent of "hockey-related" revenues, with the salary cap adjusted each year to meet that figure. The players' share increases if revenues rise. They get 55 percent when NHL revenues hit $2.2 billion, 56 percent at $2.4 billion, and 57 percent at $2.7 billion.

Do you really think that would go through straight up? See if the trade board likes it.
[EDIT: We've been at the 57% level for at least the last couple of seasons.]
The salary cap is currently $59.4m. A 14% increase would bring the cap to $64.1m, or an increase of $4.7m.
EDIT: Fixed math to account for 57%.
Oh man, imagine the ADVANTAGE teams that have signed a lot of longterm deals will have over the rest of us if we see a normal economic growth over the coming 6-7 years.
Some teams will be paying their veteran stars like 6m per with a 120 cap in place. Thats like paying your star 3m today.

If the cap goes up to $64.1 million, one more excuse for signing Richards is off the table. You could theoreticially even keep Drury, and still sign the RFAs, while adding Richards.

That's a big jump.
If the Cap ceiling increases, what about the cap floor? Would that increase by 4.7 million also? If so, chances of moving Chrius Drury wouls be greater with the larger cap hit and dollar amount of his contract.

no movement clause.
the chances of moving him are nil till he requests a trade. might be time to start healthy scratching him
If it was Anaheim, I don't think he execrcising that NMC. I would be very surprised if he did.
the guy was a ranger fan his whole life. his dream was to become captain of the rangers. i dont think hes going to walk away from that lightly. honestly, if he isnt bought out i think he'll take it as a challenge or something.

it sucks because, imho hes done.
I agree it sucks. He was always a favorite of mine. He's the kind of guy you want to see succeed here. Unfortunately, for whatever thereason he just hasen't. I guess it could be argued that the team he captains as a whole is doing very well...but that is about it.
Who knows? Maybe there is zero intention of miving him anyway? I mean, there really hasen't been any peep about it out of any of the beat writers. Maybe they organization is keen on keeping him around.
NMC or not. If the team asks a player to waive a NTC or NMC,the team doesn't want you anymore and it's time to go. Glenn Healy discussed this topic on a Hotstove segment on CBC about one month ago in relation to the Flames who have numerous restriction clauses.
Drury grew up a Ranger fan? Really? We never heard that before he signed with the Rangers. That's a bunch of BS. Yankee fan? Yes. Rangers fan? No.

When do the Rangers discuss the status of players? The Rangers aren't the Maple Leafs who leak info to TSN. Sather discussed a Rozsival trade with Maloney in early December and there wasn't a peep of it until the deal was made a month later. Did any of the beat writers who what was going on? If the organization is keen on keeping Drury around, then they better forget about any visions of Brad Richards as a Ranger next season.

No but we did discuss Gomez to Montreal as a possibility considering the Habs had interest in him in 2007 and they had the cap space to add the Gomez contract. Also Rozsival to Phoenix is another one we discussed here. Drury and Blake would/could be the main components.

I get it, Sather is tight lipped, so is the rest of the Org and even the commentators. Sometimes I swear they are asked to not discuss certain things. But guys like Brooks, Carp etc. They have discussed lots of players in the past. From Avery to Jagr to Nylander to you name it. Not really hearing anything about Drury which is why i said that maybe they have zero intention on moving him anyway?

I like! If the cap somehow jumped the 14% league revenue has so far this season and goes higher then you predict, Rangers would have some space incase of injuries and a deadline acquisition next year for the playoffs run.
That would be a very solid team and a team that could do some damage if the young D keep progressing, like Sauer and McD.
Ran some summer cap numbers-$68,640,000 projection based on $62.4M cap projection. 10% bump in the summer cap.

Group II's with estimates. Dubinsky and Callahan QO's are their current salaries. Same goes for Gilroy. Sauer and Boyle get 110% bumps and AA gets a 105% bump.
2 way contracts. Pro-rated on the number of days spent on the NHL roster the previous season. If these 3 players spend the rest of the season with the Rangers
$2,627,149 against the summer cap instead of the full $4.1M.
$56,989,649
Add Wade Redden. $6.5M. All one way contracts count. If the Rangers sign Kreider to an ELC,he doesn't count against the summer cap. If the Rangers don't bring up Valentenko this season and he signs a 2 way contract,he won't count against the summer cap.
$63,489,649
$5,150,351 in space
So many two contracts which will eat away at the above number.
Weise(25 days). He is a group II this summer. He will get a 2 way QO. His next NHL salary will be close to the NHL minimum which will be $525,000 next season. He will get more AHL money for less NHL money when signs his next contract. 25 days for $525,000 cap hit is $70,564.
Grachev(14). $816,666 cap number. $61,469 so far. If Grachev spent the rest of this season with the Rangers,$364,426 for 83 days.
Newbury is signed for next season. His NHL stint counts against the summer cap.
Kennedy and Dupont are group II's. Kolarik will be a group 6. If the Rangers qualify or sign these players to 2 way contracts,it adds to the summer cap based on days spent on NHL roster.
Rangers can't add money past this season. Can't carry any cap penalty from this season.
