Granted, looks like Sangs is a bust, Cherepanov died, etc. But those are still some damn good prospects, Cherepanov would at least be a 25/25 guy in the NHL, Kreider looks like he could be a boom of a pick, MDZ, while having a down year, is unquestionably talented, and the jury is out on McIlrath. Its an interesting question to ask, personally, i wouldnt do it.

This summer, it won't happen. Worse comes to worse, if he doesn't to sign, he'll ask for a 1 year deal out of arbitration, and the Devils can decline if they don't want to pay what he's awarded. That won't happen.
Most likely scenario is that he signs a 1 year award, then becomes a UFA, and we take Chris Drury's cap dollars and send them Parise's way.
Does anyone have an exact capspace analysis if A) all players realize their full bonuses & B) Boogey and Frolov are placed on LTIR for the rest of the year and C) all the AHL roster moves/callups are included and coverted into cap hits on the squad?

Looks like a Drury buyout creates plenty of needed space to sign Richards.
When a team buys out a contract is it the buy out figure that counts against the Cap or the annual salary figure ? Somedays it is hard enough to follow the on ice action and also follow the cap figures . You guys that have this stuff down to a science...deserve full marks for that task !
All kidding aside, may be Drury will retire after this season. He has been hurt the entire season, for the most part and one he has been playing he has not been able to sniff more then the 4th line.
More then likely wishful thinking, but he probably will not leave $5 million in real money on the table.

CapGeek doesn't count bonuses. It states the numbers don't count performance bonuses. The Rangers don't have the room for a $7M player if Prospal's bonus hits.

Our current bonuses are $3,050,000. Our projected cap space is $2,394,266. Whatever bonuses are earned will be taken out of whatever cap space we have left at the end of the year, with the remainder rolling over into next year.
Right now, we are looking at having $655,734 roll over into next year, assuming all bonuses are earned. That number will increase if we take on more salary. As much as I like Prospal, we would have been better off cap-wise if he didn't come back, because of his 1.4 mil bonus for 10 games played.
Brooks wrote about the summer cap situation in relation to any trade deadline additions signed past this season.

Richards is the key to all of this. If he is available, the Rangers game plan will be much different than if he is not. It will be extremely tight to get him, but the following MUST happen for all of this to work... barring a team-altering trade of some kind.
They WILL NOT re-sign UFAs Prospal, Feds, Frolov, or Eminger. Prospal and Feds will be considered if Richards massive cap hit isn't eating into the Rangers salary cap. They are gone if Richards is here. There is just no salary room... no matter how well Prospal or Feds play or how connected they are to the coach.
Cally, Dubi, Boyle, AA, and Sauer will all get raises. The Boyle and AA situation will be interesting depending on whether Richards is here, because of the logjam at center and salary cap issues. I don't think anyone expected BOTH of these guys to get solid raises originally, so that might be an issue. Both are definitely re-signed if Richards is not here. Sauer is given a qualifying offer and re-signed for cheap... bank on it. People are overestimating what he will make next year.
Gilroy is done. No way he gets re-signed, because his agent will push for a qualifying offer that will put his cap hit near $2M... which is insane. He should be playing for the minimum at this point.
Drury is all dependent on Richards. If Richards is available on buyout day, then Drury will be bought out... 100%. If BR re-signs somewhere, then my guess is that Sather lets Drury play out the final year, so we don't have to hamper the cap any longer than we need to. It doesn't matter how you feel about the Drury situation, it is black and white in terms of getting Richards.
Oh... and stop it with Parise. It will NEVER happen. It's not even remotely possible, so why even talk about it.
