Ari has too much of an ego. Could you imagine him and Wang sitting at the same board meeting?

I dont know why people are so against it. But Doug has a ton of experience and leadership qualities. Its unfortunate his play hasnt been up to par this year. Perhaps coaching could be a good move for him.

Fine, then let him earn his spot behind the bench, by going and being an assistant in Bridgeport, then maybe taking over as head coach, and then maybe in 7 or so years he'll be ready for the NHL.

I have no problem with grooming Weight to be the FUTURE coach of this team. But you simply can not hand him the job.

Besides, hiring him will make it seem as though Wang simply doesn't know anyone in the game besides his own personnel, which I'm sure is the case anyway.

Please let this be less than an internet rumor (if there is anything "less than" that!)

It's bad enough we have a crazy owner, an inexperienced GM, an inexperienced interim coach and inexperienced players (with the exception of those who are over the hill).

At this point, I EXPECT something that I cannot expect.

Like following the plot twists in Inception or Duplicity or the last Bachelor!

I all but guarantee that Doug Weight will be the next coach of the Islanders. We have an inexperienced GM, Clueless owner and lets throw in a novice coach in the process. Its how this organization is run!!

Add to it that the kids look up to this guy and he has their respect, I don't see why not.

Do you really think a big name "free agent" coach would ever come here? When was the last one of those that we had? Never. The closest we got was Nolan and that just because no one else wanted him.

Edit: Kenny Powers kicks some serious ass. Just started watching Eastbound and Down. ****ing hysterical.

As a head coach, absolutely effing no!!!.

Keep him with the organization and let him on as an assistant coach if that. He has zero experience, ZERO. Maybe he can replace Butch though, that would be lovely.

I don't see why Weight is the only Islander up for the head coaching job. Why not promote Gervais or Sim? Maybe even Tavares, Wang would have the youngest coach in NHL history!

Stevie is a funny character, he kind of makes that show at times. He might be a good coach for the Isles. Although it sounds like Doug Weight already does the same job for Wang already that Stevie does for Kenny.

Thats not a bad idea either. Though I think he could be groomed better in the NHL, rather then in the minors.

I know not everyone was a fan of his, but I miss Nolan and wish there was a way he could end up back here on the island.

And yeah, eastbound is great!

I'm still trying to figure out the following:

1) How is Doug Weight the Captain?
2) How is Doug Weight on an NHL roster?
3) Has Doug Weight ever completed a pass?
4) How is Doug Weight on the second line? 5th maybe. 2nd?
5) How is he not considered by far the worst player on the team?

1) Seniority/Politics
2) We needed to reach the Salary Cap floor, give the $$$ to a friend
3) a few, but only a fraction of the passes he attempts
4) See #1 and incompetence
5) I do consider DEAD Weight the worse player on the team, him and Gervais could very well be the 2 worst players ion the league.

Im cool with Weight being a coach (cant be worse than Jacky Cap), if it gets his @$$ off the ice.

Lets get a real head coach with some kind of experience who wants to come here.

There are not a lot of coaching opportunities in the NHL so I am sure some coach with some kind of experience would try out the Islanders.

I would be down with Doug Weight as the coach BUT ONLY if he can have DP retire and become the goalie coach. That would take him off of our our salary cap anyway, then maybe they would have to sign a legit forward? Ah DP as goalie coach, I could see it now....

DP-"Now watch as I make a kick save, see how that's done Lawson? Yeah thats normal to have the hip come completely out of the socket, I'll just walk that off real quick...You'll get the hang of it soon enough"

DP-"Now I'm gonna show you how I stop a breakaway...Ok, that was a good move lets try again....Damn it Konopka! stop showing off, I'm trying to teach over here"

Well, I don't think there's any chance that happens this season, but maybe in the future. He'll probably retire after this year or next and get some sort of front office with the team, who knows, maybe it will be head coach?

If you REALLY want to see a circus, imagine what Charles and Garth would look like behind the bench. Haha, that would be great. I say go for it.

I do not see the choice i would want.
I think it would be a bad idea for him to coach this season. however next season i would not have a major issue with it at all. with that being sad i think he should be a assistaint coach before he was a head .
so would vote not this season unless he was a assistiant first and then maybe next season
