TEAM 1260 Draft Day Coverage

For those of you who did not catch the announcement moments ago on the radio....

The TEAM 1260 will be carrying LIVE coverage of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft in Carolina on June 26th.

The events that Saturday will begin with a one hour local show from 9-10 AM hosted by Total Sports' Bob Stauffer and Guy Flaming of Hockey's Future. At ten o'clock the TEAM will pick up the national coverage of The FAN in Toronto but will have ongoing cut-ins from Bob & Guy right through to the end of the first round.

That's good news, for people that will be able to listen to it anyway. I'll be stuck with 960.

They covered it last year too, didn't they?

For anyone who can't listen on the team, the fan590 does have a webcast.

fan 590

As far as I can tell, the delay is minimal (30 seconds or so), but they do have continual pop-ups every 20-30 minutes asking if you are still listening, which sucks if you don't happen to be sitting right by your computer, but it's better than nothing.

Guy does what he has to. He figured if he posted it in this fashion he might not get ripped by the readership as badly

Congrats Guy.

I can't wait for the draft. It's one of my favorite events of the year.

Congrats Guy!

As some advice, not that you'll need it I am sure, but if you read up a LOT on everyone who could go top 30 and just blast them with that knowledge during the show you could end up with your own Guy's Prospects Update on the team or 630 ched or something.

I think you have it in you. Best of luck

Congratulations Guy. You are really starting to get some well deserved recognition in a field that is not easy to break into without relocating into some tiny market and working the midnight shift. My hat is off to you.

As for the 'ripping'. I'm sure you know that you can't stand on the street corner handing out $20 bills without somebody complaining that they aren't 50's. The skin thickens with time.

Dude, I've got so much info right now that I haven't been able to use yet that it would make your head spin. Put it this way, I have quotes from Oiler scouts on just about everyone in the top 100... I'm prepared already.

As for CHED, they've never even called me once to appear on any of their shows while I've been a guest on every show on the TEAM, I'm a weekly guest on Total Sports, and I've even been on Lethbridge radio. Not sure why CHED has never called but I'm not holding my breath anymore.

The TEAM has been Fan-tastic to work with so far.

Congratulations Guy!

Too bad I don't get the TEAM all the way down in LA...
And my company has a show every year that happens to be on the same day as draft day, so I can't watch it live.

960 did cover the draft last year, for sure. it was one of Rob Kerr's first days on the job and I was pretty critical of his performance that day, but I assume he'll be better this year (they were getting info really late etc)

obviously their coverage will have a strong Flames slant, but they also covered the draft from a WHL(ie Hitmen, but not exclusively so) perpective a fair amount if I remember correctly

LOL well then I guess you are set then. Just keep popping in with all kinds of stats and "draft talk" like BPA and such and you can totally get a weekly Oilers Prospects update 15 minute slot or something.

I can almost hear you saying stuff like "Wow, The Rags drafted so and so who was obviously the BPA as that guy fills no direct hole on the team. The oilers scouts had this to say about him ....

I look forward to your show

BUDDY... I already have a weekly segment on Oiler prospects! Every Thursday at 6:30 on the TEAM... it's been weekly since the regular season ended and was bi-weekly before that since training camp!

Hey Guy I would love to hear some of those quotes from the Oilers scouts about any kids the Flames end up selecting high. Please drop by our board and share after the draft if you have the time.

Thanks.

Guy is awesome, but he needs to understand that to us, he's the candyman.
We're all a bunch of addicts and some of us might get a little testy when it's been a while since our last fix.
May I suggest that he use a gentle hand when offering any future "HEADS UP GUYS!!!".

There will be a HF draft review done for each team and any comments I have on players picked by clubs other than the Oilers, those quotes will be available to the people writing those reviews. So, if the CGY writer wants comments i have on say, Kyle Chipchura, because the Flames ended up drafting him... that's where you'll see them.

Most of the quotes I have right now are from Oiler people and they wouldn't comment directly like that on another team's player, at least nothing critical.

If they've told me Player A is overrated when it comes to goal scoring but he skates better than most people think... I'd likely drop the first part of that. Get it?

I guess I should pay close attention then. I rarely listen to the radio these days. Maybe I should start?

perfect.... I still kinda prefer to watch it on TV... but now, I won't have to listen to Bob McIdiot for the predraft stuff (although I do like the other two, especially the goofball Piere M.).... anyways... great job Guy! You're turning into more of a radio personality then a writer it seems like (oh, and trust me.... if Hall is there, you should stay FAR FAR away from 630 CHED! They should fire him and hire you if they had half a brain... makes ya wonder what kind of special favours that old, senile, Tony Roma's lovin Hall. Anyways.... as said... HURRAY for Guy, actually HOSTING a show now... and probably the second most important show to the trade deadline of the whole calender!

Good stuff Guy. I listened to the announcement this morning as well.

Good to hear that you're getting more and more air-time and opportunities with The TEAM, as well as keeping us informed.

Keep up the good work!

Congrats Guy! That's pretty awesome.

I'll try and catch the webcast of the draft (being south of the border is tough to get local Edmonton radio coverage) when I get home from the local Draft Day (Saturday) party.

the fan590's coverage should be just great. the leafs have traded just about every draft pick to mortgage their future to make the second round every year. hopefully the moron's in hog town don't start talking about the raptors or something stupid like that because the leafs aren't going to be a player at the draft.

and what's with people taking shots at bryan hall?
