OT: NHL players born in MTL

i see that marco scandella is playing a few games for minnesota, and made me think about how relatively rare it is to see skaters (non-goalies) born in montreal/laval (as opposed to, say, metro toronto). too lazy to look up names myself. off top of my head: mitchell, demers, vlasic, lombardi . . . is this actually the case? fewer players out of quebec in general the past few years, of course, although a bit of an uptick recently, but most from outside the city.

Even Vlasic is a west islander iirc. From the island but not the city.

I don't know if Toronto is including far out suburbs or just the downtown core and whether Montreal is doing the same. The Greater Toronto area forms a very large part of the Canadian population.

Mathieu Darche, Vincent Lecalalier, Nashville Bouillon (?), Vancouver Burrows (Ile Bizard or something), Max Lapierre Montreal, Kris Letang Montreal, Mike Ribeiro.

I was pretty astounded to learn that Ian Turnbull, the quintessential Toronto Maple Leaf is from the West Island.

Montreal gave the NHL Mario Lemieux, the greatest player ever.

Depends how far out you want to count. Is it greater area, metro area or centre area? PK Subban gets listed as from "Toronto", even though he is really from Rexdale, 20 KM out to the NW (same distance as Mississauga, or Laval is from Montreal centre). We gonna count Subban as TO but not Lecavalier from MTL? Also you can go further, areas like Valleyfield, Hudson, St Julie, Terrebonne, St. Eustache commute to Montreal, same with Richmond, Vaughn, Markham, Oakville, etc. do to Toronto, sometimes these players are listed by their real towns, sometimes by the city.

So what. Thats not like he grew up in the bronx.

His parents are quebecers, he grew up in Montreal.

I think it qualifies him.

I think Torrey Mitchell from SJS is right off the island from greenfield park and not from the island either.

You sure? He went to high school in Westmount, that would be quite a commute every day for grade school.

I would count the whole Metro-Montreal Area like Toronto does. An easy to do this is to include anywhere the AMT Suburban trains reach. That's Montreal, West Island-including Vaudreuil-Dorion, Laval, South-Shore, North-Shore. I'd throw in Chateuguay as they commute over the bridge, etc.

Torrey C. Mitchell (born January 30, 1985 in Greenfield Park, Quebec)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torrey_Mitchell

I don't live in the west so I wouldn't know but quick search on google shows greenfield park and westmount 20 mins away from eachother by car. Obviously + traffic and all that but who knows, maybe he moved right?

Greater Montreal area is considered MTL. From West island to south shore, east end and even Laval.
Is Brooklyn not NY? Scarborough in Toronto?
It's not just the the Ville Marie borough that's Mtl.

Randy Mckay was also born in Montreal. Great guy. I got the chance to meet him several times during the off-seasons of his playing career, when I was over at his niece and nephew's house.

Doug Harvey learned his hockey on an outdoor rink about 100 feet from my front door. Learned to drink around here as well no doubt.

No he's from Greenfield park. He's known around here on the south shore where I live. His brother is even a Gym teacher at a local High school

Ya of what I've heard. He was teaching at Centennial when I was there, I remember he was one of the more popular teachers and everyone knew about his brother.
