And it was all downhill after that. The tipping point. They should do one of those Seconds From Disaster shows. He was never the same player.

That's great, but Lebda still was considered so useless according to Babcock that he was on the bench despite being on the active roster.

I wouldn't say his play declined, I would say it has been like it always has, just being magnified by his contract and his team being so much worse now.

So since you (wrongly) allege Rafalski wouldn't do well in TO's system (ever hear of Tomas Kaberle?), you think you can draw a correlary between that (wrong) assertion and Lebda...

... and you actually want to pretend you aren't comparing Rafalski and Lebda?

What comments are those? The ones they made, or the ones you are attempting to recollect one or the other of them possibly making?

Are you attempting to credit Lebda for the record of the Detroit Red Wings while he was here?

Babs sometimes has an interesting idea of uselessness. Furthermore, for Lebda's first 3-4 yrs, he didn't seem to find him as useless as you suggest.

The stats declined over time, even here, but clearly E was the most horrific thing skating last year..

Relevance?

I'm honestly confused what your defense of him is for.

You called a guy useless because _________?

Does Holland keep useless players on the team for five years?

I called him useless last year.

Do you believe he had significant value?

Apparently.

Actually it was 4 and a half seasons.

Lebda isn't completely useless, but he doesn't have a lot of upside. He worked pretty well with the Wings because of his speed, but his typical move was to make a rush up ice, not know what to do with the puck, then turn it over or handcuff a teammate with a panicked pass.

I still just don't get what the hell the Leafs were thinking when they signed him for that much. He isn't exactly an unknown quantity or a young player.

Sounds like he has a nice seat in the press box though.

Last year was his worst, but he still wasn't the worst D man statistically.

He didn't have significant value. If you want to talk significant, other than that guy who keeps putting up Norris type numbers, how about Stuart or Rafalski?

I'll say it again. Cap hit $650K. 14-ish ES minutes/gm, depth guy with the following:

Year...GP...G...A... Pts...+/-
05/06 46 3 9 12 +9
Playoffs 6 0 0 0 +3

06/07 74 5 13 18 +16
Playoffs 12 0 2 2 +4

07/08 78 3 11 14 -1
Playoffs 19 0 2 2 +/-0

08/09 65 6 10 16 +9
Playoffs 23 0 6 6 +8

09/10 63 1 7 8 -2 (the injury-riddled year)
Playoffs 2 0 0 0 0

That's not bad for $650K.

Was I surprised he got $1.5m? Yes.

Well that is where we agree and the topic should end for everyone, since I don't believe there is a single person here who believes Lebda is worth his cap hit.

Was he a pretty decent value for a depth defenseman? Sure.
Does he have enough skill to be paid the amount Burke threw at him? Absolutely not.

Props to Lebda for taking the money and running, though. Wouldn't have made that anywhere else.
