Avery's Ice Time

Hi All,
First post.

I happened to be at the game against the Sabres last week and noticed Avery barely had any ice time. And now he's dropped to the fourth line? Now I've noticed his ice time during games has dropped drastically. Have I missed something here? Last I saw he was setting up plays from behind the net and playing fairly well. And this started happening before the punch incident. Is something goin down with Torts possibly?

He seems to favor Prust at the moment. Hopefully they'll switch places again. Pruster belongs on the 4th line...

I think, maybe that Tortorella is trying to light a fire under his ass.

Avery really only shows his full potential once ever 10-15 games. And its unacceptable because it makes it really hard to run a consistent third line when he goes on vacation.

He is a solid player, but he needs a kick in the ass once in awhile. Would like to see him get some more ice time soon.

If Step doesn't stick on the first line, I'd love to see the Avery-Step-Feds line reunited and getting the playing time it was getting at the beginning of the season.

Avery should be getting more ice time.

Exactly, avery's shown hes a capable players just isnt a consistent one. torts is probably trying to get him to work his way up, and i agree with loffen torts favors prust now for some reason. In the end avery is the better player torts knows that when were healthy and the dust settles hell be on the third line with cpt intangibles.

I thought Avery played well in his limited ice time tonight. He was finishing his checks. Its just tough for him and Stepan to do much on the offensive end playing with Boogaard.

Overall so far this season I think Avery play has been pretty consistent. Torts is making a mistake giving Prust third line minutes over Aves. Avery is the much better offensive player. I'm a big fan of Prust but he should be playing 4th line minutes and killing penalties.

I love Prust, but Avery is much more talented and deserves more time.

I feel Aves is the type of player that when given the good job pat on the back, he plays better. Or when has weight put on his shoulders. Like when he plays in the playoffs. But 4th line is def not acceptable. thats why I cant help but think its an internal thing. You always hear about how he is an "iffy" teamate but know one has ever really given me an example or an instance as in how he gained that rep

I love Prust but if you watch closely he is quite possibly the worst "receiver" of the puck this team has had in a long time. The puck just always seems to hop over his stick on a cycle or bounce off his stick in the neutral zone. Yes he'll give it his all to win back the puck but I just wish he could improve in this area. Time to get Gordon Bombay and some eggs to teach this guy soft hands.

The difference between Prust and Avery is that one gives full effort every shift and the other one doesn't. Tortorella has proven that he is going to reward the player who gives his all every time he's on the ice.

I think Avery is more effective in limited ice time. Keeps his energy up. When he starts getting more ice time he stops living on that edge, this year he's been there a lot and that's what makes him special.

This is why some of us dislike him. Solid players don't need kicks in the ass. They always bring it. Avery is a tease.

Prust has not been better than avery. have you seen him? he can hardly handle the puck and almost never gets shots off. he is only good for fights.

Spot on. Avery has good nights and bad nights. Good shifts and bad shifts.

Prust, bless his heart, works his ass off every shift.

yes he does. hes the perfect 4th line player whos just shy talent wise, of being a 3rd liner.

problem is, he suffers from the same affliction as this guy

Avery's been pretty quiet for awhile now, and to be honest, the Rangers team has enough 3rd line type players that someone is going to be playing 4th line minutes at some point. Avery's time will come around again at some point

What did Callahan say to Avery after that incident as Avery was being sent out? Avery then gave him a look of disgust. Very curious.

Yeah I was actually thinking to myself last night at one point "where the F is Sean Avery?"

it was pretty much blink and you miss him, the past few games....

he's a weird hockey player

Aves will obviously be invisible with 7 minutes of ice-time, and playing with Boogaard who can't keep up with the play at all, dosen't help either.

He is mis-used right now and it's pissing me off.

I know Sean is trying to move into Gretzky's office, but his 1 goal is hard to ignore.

he has 8 assists. and its hard to net pucks when u get 8 minutes of ice time a game lately. lets not forget that he was the most valuable player for the first five games when he was getting major ice time.

Whom would you play him over? Boogard is the only one. Sad. He is right where he should be, no misuse there.
