This thread will see alot of traffic for the next month or so if a mod could sticky it that would be great. Considering that Sweden and the USA seem to have a sticky thread on thier prospects.

My updated team, and after further consideration, I'm going to have to agree with a previous poster. I think we could see a rarity where a returning player gets cut. That player is Calvin De Haan. Their is just sooo much depth on defence where the "fringe" players have simply outperformed De Haan. I won't include Gormely either as I see someone is reporting he suffered a major leg injury.

Forwards(I'll try to slice out line combinations while we're at it)

Leblanc-Schenn*-Kassian
Eakin-Hishon(Ok,I'm sold now)-Connoly
Ashton-Johansen-Vey
Coutirier Cizikas Hamilton
Nugent Hopkins*

Defence:

Cowen-Olsen
Ellis-Despres
Gudbrandson-McNabb
Murphy

Goaltenders:

Pickard
Domingue

***asterisk on Schenn because he hasn't officially been made available yet. I suspect Jaden Schwartz would step in if he's a no go.

Pretty good lineup. The only thing I would change though is the line combinations for forwards. It may have been of fluke, but Eakin, Couturier and Leblanc were the best line by far at the summer camp. I see the forward lines as:

Hishon - Schenn* - Connolly
Eakin - Couturier - Leblanc
Ashton -Johansen - Kassian
Vey (or Ross) - Cizikas - Hamilton

Although I'd love to fit Schwartz in there somewhere.

How is Schenn even allowed to play in the AHL right now?

Kings used the conditioning stint rule to send him down; he's still on the active roster for the Kings, but down in Manchester for a max. of 2 weeks. I believe the 2 weeks ends Wed. this week.

For more info. see Rich Hammonds' blog LAKingsInsider

Oh I see, that's should be good for him though but he probably would be best off in junior. It helped Pietrangelo a lot coming back for a final season and leading team Canada in the WJC. It would certainly help him more than being a health scratch or playing 5-10 minutes on the 4th line. I don't think he was injured though so on what basis can they assign him, and can they do it more than once?

I'd say very slim. The only leaf prospect who might make it is Ross.

You gotta play Hishon with Wilson!

Shocking if Quinton Howden doesn't even get an invite, I looked at him as close to a lock for the team. Last years scouts said he had the game that was most suited for the pro game. And he has put up solid points this season too, fantastic skater and he is big.

Yea, as much as I'd like to see Wilson there.. I think Howden should be a part of that team..

I also think Howden should alteast get a shot to make the team.

What do you guys think of Ryan Johansen shot? It looks like many people are pencilling him as either the 2nd or 3rd line center automatically, but I'm not sure I see it. I think he has a pretty good shot at making it, but I would not be surprised if he was one of the odd men out if he doesn't have a very solid camp.

Pre-Camp Predictions:

Glennie-Schenn-Hishon
Couturier-Leblanc-Connolly
Eakin-Johanson-Kassian
Ross-Cizikas-Werek
*Nugent-Hopkins

Ellis-Gudbranson
Dehaan-Gormley*
Cowen-Despres
Olsen

Pickard
Roy

* If Gormley can't play then I could see Olsen replace him and Doherty becomes the 7th.

I'll throw a few players names out that maybe aren't getting the same amount of consideration as some others. I'd be curious to see how some of you assess their particular chances. Do they have a chance to be at selection camp? Could you see them making the team? etc etc etc...

Brendan Gallagher-Vancouver
Brandon Hynes-Victoriaville
Brendan Ranford-Kamloops
Jordan Weal-Regina
Ryan Martindale-Ottawa
Tyler Toffoli-Ottawa
Jaden Schwartz-Colorado College
Tyson Barrie-Kelowna
Ryan Murray-Everett
Charles Olivier-Roussel-Quebec
Brayden McNabb-Kootenay
Taylor Doherty-Kingston
Marcus Foligno-Sudbury

Brandon Pirri is playing successfully in the AHL and has even been called up to Chicago. You would think he would be getting some consideration.

Tyson Barrie not getting much respect around here .. I can see why, but remember his junior coach Ryan Huska is an Asst with Team Canada so I think we will see Barrie stick around longer than expected.

Agreed. This has played a factor in the past with guys on the bubble. Just a hunch, but I have a feeling that one of Gormley or Gudbrandson could get knocked out of a spot by Barrie.

I don't understand why people are squeezing de Haan out of their lineups. He played quite solid and didn't looked out of place last year as an 18 year old and he could very well be an assistant captain. McKenzie said on Friday that if any returnee is going to have to play himself on to the team it's Cowen.

Team rosters from the past should be thrown out the window. You should have to play your way onto the roster every year. And in terms of quality of play, Simon Despres needs to have a spot on this team.

Cowen won't have trouble making the team, he might just be Team Canada's best defenseman.

Haven't seen him play yet this year but his stats are quite good (obviously more to hockey than stats, especially considering he is a shutdown guy). I was simply echoing what Bobby Mac said on Friday. Hope he makes it, got a bad rep from those injuries last year I feel.
