Not arguing that wouldn't get it done, but my only question is why?
Loose rozi u pretty much dismantle the defense.
Loose dubi you take away a good chunk of secondary scoring.
Loose kreider and stepan pretty much our top tier future players.
Then u trade I'm assuming 2011 and 2012 firsts which possibly cripples the possibility of drafting two more kreiders or Stepans.
I would love to have staal on my team but at that cost NO THANKS. That puts us right back to where we were two years ago no secondary scoring not so hot prospect depth and we just have a stellar first line. Like I said no thanks.

One--Staal will not be traded short of a demand to be traded--and he has not done so.

Two--if it were to be done because of financial reasons--they won't trade for a Malkin or similar long term contract. And personally--I wouldn't want Jagr Jr. as my team leader.... They would take back a big contract if it was soon to expire--but the trade will have to include a good bit of young prospects and picks. (Richards is not comparable--Staal is better than Richards and has been for more than a single year)

Three--for the trades below--really--did you forget the joking symbols? You want the Canes to trade a future PPG winger/center for a good defenseman on a higher contract and give up a 20 min/game d-man too? But at least that one is reasonable compared to the nonsense below---Sutter is already an A for the Canes, younger, cheaper and a comparable defensive player and adequated scorer compared to J. Staal. And you want the Canes to throw in a 65 point winger on a good contract as well? Please....

Big no to both. Skinner is untouchable, and the difference between Sutter and J. Staal is a LOT less than Jokinen+1st

I thought we were done with this a year ago when JR came out and said "We're not trading Eric Staal."

I just think it'd be cool to see the Staal boys play together..

Pitkanen & M.Staal would make for a dangerous top pairing..

The worst part about these trade rumor threads is all those self-important posters who post things with absolute certainty.

"He is NOT, I repeat, he is NOT being traded. Close this thread"

Obviously it's very unlikely that he's traded, but what contribution do these posts have to this thread? It's just one person who thinks he has this absolutely knowledge that other people simple wouldn't understand.

I guess that's what you get on a site flooded with a bunch of high school drop outs.

It might happen if LA offered Johnson+Simmonds+Schenn+1st.

Still no. Way too much for a single player.

Right. You have no concept on what it would take to get a 26 year old #1 center with a 100 point season and a Cup, then.

I'm not saying it wouldn't take that. I'm saying I wouldn't want to give it up.

No need for cheapshots.

EDIT: Now that I think about it...I'd consider doing it without DZ or Dubi involved. In fact, I'd rather add Del Zotto in there than Kreider, considering the quality of our LW prospects.

By expressing my anger, obviously.

My point is, I think that given the right package, Eric Staal may be moved. A group of players/prospects may help a team more than one player.

Now you see the light.

Staal makes us an instant Cup contender. There are very few players out there that can do that.

Rozsival
Stepan
Kreider / Del Zotto
1st in 10
1st in 11

We're giving up 4 very good pieces there. It's a lot to give up, but Staal is 100% a sure thing and instantly helps us. Imagine him with Gaborik? You'd have Anisimov as the 2nd line center putting up around 50 points, as well. Staal is one of the few players that makes a guy like Stepan expendable and movable for him.

By the way, any trade for Staal is likely going to piss off the team trading for him. It will take an overpayment to get him.

I don't know about INSTANT. But, yeah, sooner than expected. Staal and Gaborik would likely be the most deadly duo in the league(after Ovechkin Backstrom, of course). And we have a lot of young players and prospects to make up for those losses.

The value is definitely there. We would need a PMD, though.

This is just laughable. Let's look at the facts:

1-Jim Rutherford has said Eric Staal will NOT be traded. He and Cam Ward on the cornerstone of this franchise.

2-Had the STH party Monday night. Maurice was asked about Staal and how he is doing as first year captain. After Maurice went on and on about Staal he mentioned how he calls Raleigh home and he and his wife love Raleigh.

3-Canes are NOT in financial trouble as this idiot Matthew Barry alluded to. Peter Karmonas is looking for a partner as his previous partner Thewes passed away 2 years ago. There is no fianancial trouble in Carolina.

4-That NTC of Staal's kicked in on July 1, 2010.
