Removes CSN California (which carries Sharks games) from line up.

Wasn't there a similar problem with CSN Philadelphia a few years back? I remember having Dish and not being able to watch Flyers' games.

Well I had long debated if I would touch Dish when I leave Canada next year due to their qualms with Versus. This essentially nails it. Too much of a concern they would randomly cut my channels. Not that it would matter too much, since I always have Center Ice.

I'm in the same boat (moving in to a new place here at the end of the month) and have been weighing cable vs Dish vs Direct TV. So far I'd say Direct TV is winning that vote by a pretty big margin with Dish in last. They're just too unreliable when it comes to keeping things like the FSN stations going. IIRC there was even an issue with Center Ice earlier during their dispute with Fox since most games on Center Ice are via FSN affiliates.

Damn. I was wondering if they might have qualms with Center Ice. At least you can watch any game blacked out a couple days later. What I do whenever a Habs game is only aired in French. Direct TV definitely appears to be the best, although Verizon has something now I believe. In the end makes me strongly consider trying to keep Bell and messing with their box. I heard you can do that.

Anyhow, problems with Center Ice is an immediate deal breaker for me. I watch four teams and need that to keep up.

I use Gamecenter anyway rather then Center Ice since I travel quite a bit. Love the archive option, and all you need to watch any game is a place with a decent internet connection.

All you need is a Canadian billing address... no messing around with boxes required.

It depends on where in the USA you are for Bell. The satellite which carries the HD, and some SD channels, which is at 82W is not viewable from much of the US, even with a larger dish. A few years back, this satellite was repositioned to cover Canada better, at the expense of a signal footprint in the USA. So unless you are close to the border, Bell may not be a viable option to use in the USA. Shaw Direct does work better in the USA, signal wise.

Normally Iíd try to pin this down a little better, but a cheesesteak with my name on it is calling, so Iíll merely pass along what I heard this morning from a reliable Sharks source.

The nastiness between Comcast and Dish Network has reached the point where Comcast will now reward viewers who abandon Dish ó and I donít know whether this only applies to those who switch to Comcast as the provider or not ó a $150 gift certificate.

More on that, too, when I hear.

More on the issues. In addition, Dish seeking similar treatment with CSN Bay Area, CSN Chicago (NHL Hakws) and CSN Mid Atlantic.

Dish isn't that popular in Chicago so it shouldn't be a big deal

William Lake, chief of the FCC's Media Bureau, noted in a speech to an industry group this week that with broadcasters' and TV operators' revenue shrinking in recent years, testy impasses on contracts have left viewers in the lurch.
Lake said his agency will study ways to better shield consumers from television disruptions. One remedy under consideration is to force companies to hash out their differences in binding arbitration, before being allowed to withhold programming from viewers.
A similar idea has been floated by Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., chair of the subcommittee on Communications, Technology and the Internet, who warned that, without changes, "more fights and disruptions of service are what people will have to look forward to."
...
Others, including some members of Congress, have raised concerns about Comcast's market clout as both a pay-TV cable operator and as a provider of content, which would greatly increase if it succeeds in its bid to buy programming giant NBC Universal. By having a foot in both businesses, these critics contend, Comcast could siphon customers away from other pay-TV operators by making its programming too expensive or difficult for those competitors to obtain.
