Canada's forwards for the WJC

With 8 forwards still with their NHL teams it looks like the forward spots are up for grabs. So who has looked good early on that will be eligible?

I think it's a sufficiently deep group. Sean Couturier and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins should both be on that team, and with the likes of Cody Eakin, Jordan Weal and Brendan Gallagher as options to add offensive skill.

That might look a bit soft, but with Kassian, Werek, Ross, Hamilton all starting their seasons so well, I think you could make 4 balanced lines out the group that's available.

I'm pretty sure I said the same exact line when Toews went pro.

I think I read something about McKegg not being eligible because they only want players who went to summer camp and he didn't? Something like that anyway.

Hopefully I'm wrong because he's had a great start to the season.

Send a message via ICQ to Dutchy
Will Eakin make the team? He was impressive at the Caps training camp.

Gregg McKegg and Christian Thomas have arguably been the two top forwards in the OHL so far. Hockey Canada would be fools not to let them have a shot at making the team in December

Ryan Johansen and Louis Leblanc should be there.

I'd be willing to bet Casey Cizikas has a real good shot at a roster spot. He's a jack of all trades for Dave Cameron and a guy that he relies on heavily in Mississauga.

Thomas is listed as a defenceman, can anyone confirm or deny this?

Well he's only played 7 games compared to 10-12 like the "Q" leaders. From all accounts, he's be playing extremely well, though he's had some problems with his faceoffs lately.

I'm fairly confident Eakin is one of the forwards. And, it would be pretty interesting to see if both Couturier and RNH make the team.

Anyone see Peter Holland play? I know he was not invited to the summer camp which was a mistake imop.

Louis Leblanc is a no-brainer IMO, the kid has shown great stuff since the beginning of the season in the Q.

That would be an interesting line, are Johansen, Leblanc, and McKegg the front runners for the centre spots?

Who's going to be leading this team's offence? Or will it be scoring by committee?

Might have to wait and see who emerges. Could be Connolly, Johansen, Leblance, maybe even Couturier if he makes it.

In my opinion Couturier doesn't need to blow the coaches away with his offense to get on this team. He does have a ton of upside on that front, but he plays the game at a high level in both ends of the rink.

As a Leaf fan it puts a smile on my face to have big time players two years in a row on Canada's Junior team. Kadri obviously last year, and this year Brad Ross and Greg McKegg probably making the team. Prospect pool is starting to look pretty solid. McKegg IMO was a big steal in the draft.
