I don't see how it really works unless you put Salo on waivers when he's healthy and that's a waste of an asset.

The other option would be to move Ehrhoff if GMMG is getting a bad vibe from contract negotiations. My problem with that is I think you'd have a better chance of replacing what Bieksa brings through Free Agency/off-season trade then you would replacing what Ehrhoff brings.

Markov and Pitkanen are going to get way overpaid this off-season so I wouldn't even consider them and Kaberle is a flake. I think you might be able to bring someone in like Hejda, Brewer, Stuart, Montador, Skrastins, etc to replace Bieksa.

This is basically it. Unless you count Ballard's season so far as an accurate representation of what he'll bring to the table for the Canucks (which is an insane thing to do), Bieksa is the Canuck defenseman that is most easily replaced for equal or lower money.

No time limit on how long you can keep a player on LTIR. You aren't forced to activate them if you don't have the capspace.

The question I have is where did the Bieksa of a couple of years ago go ? Where did the solid defenceman who put up 40 points go ? I mean he isn't old. The injuries haven't slowed his skating. And what ever happened to his nasty streak ? What gives.

Speculation is he could be traded with Ripper as well:

AKA I can twist anything to make it look how I want it too.

Please be a deal in the works.

Why else would the G.M. be down at ice level? Isn't that a pretty uncommon event, especially after an impressive win?

You'd think he'd call him into his office instead of doing it at practice in front of his teamates and the media.

He was just letting him know that he gave Vigneault a stern talking to and that his ice time would be back up to 25 minutes next game.

If there was actually a possibility of a trade, why would he keep practicing?

Sadly, it doesn't look like a trade as he went back to practicing, which would be strange if he was dealt. When Krajicek was pulled aside at practice, I think he left immediately.

Some intrigue at #Canucks practice. Vigneault just huddled players in far corner, away from media.
I think they're playing a practical joke on the media.

Actually if it were Rypien who were traded, Bieksa is one of his best friends on the team so maybe he just pulled him aside to let him know and the coach then told the group?

Or they were discussing who has snow tires.

If the general manager is interupting practice it's going to be for a good reason.

Oh, just heard what's up - Bieksa's baby has squirty bum...

Nothing to see here folks.

If that was the case I don't see why they would have told Bieksa before everyone else, and especially before practice, unless that was something unrelated.

Sometimes I wish we didn't have these twitter reports since we still have to wait another couple of hours or more to find out what the real deal is. And ultimately we will end up disappointed.

Bieksa has played fine this year and it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if he was brought back but his erratic play the last two seasons forced the team to go out and bring in Hamhuis and Ballard. If it weren't for Salo getting hurt, we know Bieksa was the one who was gone so the team had decided to move forward without him in their long term plans.

He's played well but has he played well enough to the point where I see Mike Gillis significantly altering his long term plans? No, I don't think he's played that well.

Murph's snowed in. I doubt his paltry Sportsnet salary allows him to live close to the rink.
