It's been quoted that Tarasenko will most likely be named captain (if he hasn't already).

Do they not invite AHL players? Is that why Avtsin didn't get an invite?

AHL players often don't get relased....or may be Bragin sees his team without Avtsin.

My only complaint about the whole roster is that Avtsin is not there. He was ahead of Dvurechenksy in the KHL last year, just because he is in AHL he gets left off? He is a very good player who definitely should be on that team.

Anyhow, Bragin picked a better team than Plyushev would have, less surprises. I hope Pedan will get a shot, very tough player.

Might have to do with a lack of familiarity for Bragin. Unlike the Russian CHLers, Avtsin wasn't released for the subway super series....Bragin never had a 1st hand look at him and it's difficult to monitor the progress of such a player overseas.

Agreed, I would have taken Avtsin also; but in a tournament where it's vital that a team have no question marks going in, I can't blame Bragin for omitting a player he's not 100% certain with.

Any chance Kabanov is selected? If not why?

last season Dvurechenskiy was making Dynamo roster over Avtsin on many nights and Dvur is not a sure lock to make the team; therefore, imho, neither is Avtsin.

he's burned all the bridges possible...whether he'd be able to reinstate some of them depends squarely on him.

Russia would be straight up foolish not to have Yakupov in their lineup i live in sarnia, best thing to come through this team since stamkos look what he's done in the OHL as a 16 yr old.

Avtsin 30 games last season compared to Dvurechenskiy's 11.. Avtsin was much more noticeable scoring some nice goals. Besides IMO Avtsin is better. Has more dynamic qualities, physicality. That is not good enough logic for him to not even be considered in the prelim. roster.

absolutely ZERO chance. Kabanov has turned his back on Russian hockey for good I believe. Perhaps if its the National team that goes to the Olympics, he might return, but definitely not for juniors.

Maybe you mixed up the two guys? Avtsin was pretty much a regular for them and would have played more than the 30 games weren't for his wrist/hand injury that pretty much ended his season. He still ended up 2nd on the team with a +6. Getting 9 points wasn't too bad either for an 18 year old.

Wasn't Kabanov banned from Team Russia for 3 years anyways ?

I'm sure if Avitsin wanted to, Montréal would have released him to play in the tourny.

Kabanov was banned from the KHL, not the national team. Considering his recent past (tardiness, refusal to accept his role on team, few games played last 2 years) I doubt any national team would want him at the current moment.

I believe Avtsin's chance to prove himself to Bragin was during the Subway Super Series, but Montreal didn't release him. Seems like Bragin is choosing players he's familiar with and has seen first hand.....all the CHL players on preliminary list played in subway super series (except for goaltender Sadikov).

Yea he wasn't banned from the National Team, but he did get kicked off the U-18 team last season so he still has a bitter taste in his mouth about it.

Yakubov will be a bust. Only Russian trained Russians can become impact players.
