Since we're all letting our baggage out here in this ****-show of a thread: Chad LaRose would fall down before he even got to the goaltender in a shootout...or have we already forgotten his shorthanded breakaway against Boston?

There, now I feel better too.

shhh... be quiet.... You can't trash Larose; a certain poster might show up and start trashing you and the rest of the board, and then the rest of us will get banned from the official Canes boards too.

It's not worth responding to in the first place. LaRose may not have the best of anything on the team, but he's shown he can perform in the shootout. Considering we're an amazing 1-for-11 (since the Pittsburgh shootout didn't even reach the 3rd shooter) at this point in the season, there's no reason to stick with the lineup we've been using.

Skinner has been the only player to score in the shootout this year. I'm all for Larose/Dwyer/Stormy to take shots. They can't do any worse than our 'good' shootout guys, can they?

Maurice suggests that shootout changes could be made tonight if it comes to that:

Even if we were to change up the shootout order, LaRose would likely still be in the bottom and not chosen.

Last week at the STH party, someone asked Mo about selecting the shooters. He went through and explained that each player has a rating. The rating is based on what they have done to date in the shootout and penalty shots. At times, they will also base the decision on what they have seen in practice and who they think is 'HOT' at the moment.

Let's put it this way, Maurice said he would love to try Timmy in a shootout b/c when they practice, he's the only one that scores regularly. So no one go crap their pants if he chooses Timmy over Chad

For a second there I thought you were going to bring up his breakaway where he went down, got up barely breaking stride, and got the shot on net going down again while drawing a penalty.

But yeah, that definitely has a direct bearing on what he'd do in a SO in some vague, barely-relatable way, somehow trumping what he's already shown he can do in a SO in reality.

Btw, you'll actually feel better once you let go of the irrational hate.

Anyway, the point is, try some new faces. It doesn't have to be LaRose (although it would be fun to see the sputtering and backpedaling and "goalie sucks, anyone could have" whines when he pots another one.)

As far as the order goes, that's why I put Jokinen first and LaRose second. Yes, Jokinen likes to go second because he supposedly gets to read the goalie on the first shooter, but clearly, he's been illiterate in that aspect this year.

Every goalie knows Jokinen's reputation as a shootout specialist. If he goes first, it could cause the goalies to overthink. Lead with your best foot forward and all that.

LaRose going second would be ideal as well, because then you've got a known shootout artist followed by a relatively unknown shooter period, let alone shootout shooter. There may be tape on LaRose, but I doubt he's a priority watch when it comes to the shootout.

Makes me wish we had Babchuk back. We could have done what the Bruins do occasionally and send a defenseman out there and just fire as hard a slapshot as possible.

Just for the record...

I didn't mean NorthStar4Canes in my semi-sarcastic post above.

Also for the record, I'd like to get Larose a chance in shootout.

He has a move or two, and he proved it in the past.

So everyone is trying to either remove one of the best shooters in SO history or the guy who is 2-4 this year? Jussi is snake bit, but it will come back, Skinner is probably our best option right now, so that only leave ones spot... How about Cam and Peters make some stops, that's the bigger problem

Where he was tripped at the red line, drawing the penalty, got up and took 4 strides, inexplicably fell down again, then took a weak-sauce shot from his knees? Yeah, that's the barely-relatable instance I was referring to. Maybe it's just my ignorance, I'm just not seeing how taking a shot from his knees would increase his shootout acumen. Even my girlfriend laughed at y'all's assessment that he's an "average" skater...that's some sharp criticism of your evaluating skillz right there, lemme tell ya.

Maybe. And maybe you'll see better once you let go of the irrational love.

What's great is, based on the comments that I consistently read on this board, it's quite apparent to me that there's no one who feels better than the way I feel about this team...and you're telling *me* to let go of irrational hate. The irony amuses me.
