Top Spot in the West on the line Friday

This could be the biggest, most intense game in the history of the franchise

Kill the Wings and we're 1 in the west.

I don't give a damn about the whole state of Michigan.......

**** Detroit.

**** Michigan.

This may call for Avatar Unity...the criticality of this upcoming game is almost unfathomable.

Time for Arniel to give them another "Get Greedy" speech. Maybe just steal the Herb Brooks speech. Whatever.

This is where the men get separated from the boys. Let's be on the "men" side of the ledger this time.

Damn shame its Michigan Week, because this should be big news in Columbus. Particularly if we could manage, God/Allah/Zeus willing, a sweep.

The key to victory is to get Boomer on the Detriot bench. They would be laughing so hard it would be an easy victory. Too easy

Perhaps Michigan week and a CBJ win might draw attention to this team among those who would not normally care about it.

Yeah, it's pretty easy to see what the NHL was trying to do here. Or maybe the CBJ requested it, but still the NHL makes the schedule. However it was done, someone purposely scheduled a home and home with Detroit which just so happens to sandwich the OSU-UM game.

Exactly the point, and I think it's a great idea, despite this board's unspoken rule of Thou Shalt Never Speak Well Of The Buckeyes.

So, which do you think is the lead story in the Saturday morning paper (or the Friday 11 p.m. newscast) if the Jackets win Friday:

A. Jackets win historic game against rival Wings to take first place in the Western Conference; or

B. Ohio State prepares for an obvious, anti-climatic win against Michigan which will not be enough to send them to a National Championship or the Rose Bowl?

'Cuz I'll bet the house its B and not A, which is one reason this sort of scheduling actually hurts the Jackets, who could desperately use some fan support at the gates these days.

And would it be any different if it was scheduled half a week earlier or later?

Perhaps an even better point: Did ANYONE AT ALL actually predict, going into the season, this weekend's game was going to be for first place in the West? I sure didn't, and I'm one of the more insanely optimistic folks here.

And you can probably get some nice crossover if both teams win out. Beat Michigan both ways and all.

Honestly, it's like some of y'all already have your plan in place - to bring the hated Buckeyes down as much as possible - and think that couching it in terms of "getting the Jackets their rightful recognition" somehow makes that kind of perspective acceptable and/or agreeable.

If I had to guess, I'd bet it was, more likely, done so if the CBJ got their butts kicked, no one would notice.

edit. Removed my post since I looked at old standings. Anyway, in case two teams are tied in points here's how the order is determined.

From NHL.com:
Quote:
Division leaders are seeded 1, 2, and 3 in Conference standings. If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order:

1. The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).
2. The greater number of games won, excluding games won in the Shootout (NEW for 2010-11).
3. The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing.
4. The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season.

I disagree. It's evidently a crossover marketing attempt, and I can see Detroit going with it 'cause OSU's the favorite over UM.

We're tied with them on points right now; each has 28.

Did we learn nothing from Keith B. Wettington?

How dare this organiztion... NAY! The NHL as a whole.... how dare they have the audacity to even SCHEDULE a home game during Michigan Week, much less against Detroit!!! Then these upstarts go and win and make the outcome of the game actually mean something!!!

Someone or something needs to get this hockey BS under control!!!

We'd have to win both games to get the top spot. If we split the two games, we'd end up still tied with Detroit one game in hand.

Good luck this weekend, I am going to the game sunday I am excited. This is going to be a big weekend.

If the Wings win this wouldn't be the first time we beat another hot team at the top of the league. We beat St. Louis twice (7-2 and 7-3 as I recall) when they were on top. So be ready Blue Jackets!

The same could be said for us, with St. Louis and LA.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to this one.
