Blackhawks should sign Crawford to 4YR/7M deal

Let's get this guy locked up before we have another Niemi situation on our hands. Crawdaddy is better anyway. Sets Crawford up for life and gives the Hawks a good goaltender at a 1.75M cap hit for the next 4 years. It's a little bit of a risk right now for the Hawks, but it could and most likely will pay off pretty big if he can handle a starting role in the future.

Signing a guy like Crawford for 4 years is just irresponsible. The Hawks management would never do that.

New regime+ $ to spend. McDonough liked to make splashes (Soriano, Campbell) and Tallon had a Sather-esque moment.

Crawford's looking at 2M+ this offseason unless he imploads, so if we go year to year, we'll get burned in money and cap hit. The plus to that is being able to rid ourselves of him whenever we want, but nobody is coming out of this system anytime soon. The teams plays better in front of Crawford too because he's great at making the first save and letting his defenders get the rebounds like Niemi (however, less/less ugly rebounds than Niemi).

This scared me, I thought we had signed him to that deal. Please god, no. Maybe a 1 or 2 yr deal @ 1mil - 1.5mil if he keeps playing like this.

Crawdaddy is an awesome nickname. It's almost as good as
"The Magic Man."

The length of the deal is way to long. I'd give him two years at $1.25 million. He hasn't proven anything yet. Heck, you never know who might be available on the cheap. There seems to be a glut of goaltending around the league.

Not a lot of support I guess. Obviously 1.25-1.5 for two years would be great, but if you think he is good enough for that, then he isn't going to get worse during his prime years (years 3 and 4) when you get him half price.

Seeing the thread title without the prefix nearly gave me a heart attack. Let Crawford first finish the season before giving out any contracts, and 4 years is far too long, 2 years max.

He very well could implode. With a 2 year deal it's a low risk. Alot can happen In four years. Look at my team and how far giguere dropped in just a year. It's happening more often honestly. Don't go four years on a goalie who could very well just be riding a serious hot streak.

All of that aside he has been playing great for you guys, he sure did work the ducks over last time we saw you guys.

Not sure what the asking price is now, but I think we should still be thinking long term to get him on a nice cap hit.

I'd love to see a long term deal. Unfortunately I dont see anything longer than 3 years at anything less than 2.5.

I think anything under 2 would be a bargain.

So you think Crawford who has played half a season will get more than Howard in Detroit who just signed a 2 year deal for $2.25?

I'd like to see him at 2-3 years at 1.5-1.75 per.

At this point, I think 3YRS/6M would be a good deal for both sides. If we go to the finals this year though, everything is out the window.

Look at what Neimi just got.

Obviously Crawford is an RFA, however hes going to want a raise, and hes certainly not going to sign a cap friendly long term contract.

1.5 would be a steal.

Of course a qualifying offer would be $880,000.

He'll most certainly get an offer that gives the Hawks compensation if hes poached.

I'm not saying my jaw would drop if CC was signed at 1.5, however it would be a bargain.

I'll be very happy if Crawford gets something comparable to Niemi, because that will mean he's got the "Cup-Winning Goalie" label.

No way, even if Crawford gets a Cup. He is still largely an unknown, much like Niemi, who granted is showing signs that he could be a legit #1.

Niemi is also a Stanley Cup winning goalie that was a UFA. What did Rask get after his RFA year, $1.25?

Rask was a RFA and signed a 2 year, $2.5 mil contract. Last year he went 22-12 with a 1.97 GAA and a .931 save percentage with 5 shut outs. Seems comperable to me.

2 yrs at 1.9 mil per I think would work fine for both sides

Hawks get affordable quality goaltending and Crawford gets security of multi-year deal at raise

If Salak comes in and plays great we would also have a good trade chip in Crawford at that contract

1.9 is comparable to what Rask/Quick got after 1 good year (1.8) and close to what Niemi's actual salary was this year (2 mil)
