Sj-bos, Sj-tor, Sj-nyi

SJ Gets
Sturm
5th round pick 2011

BOS gets
Joslin
3rd 2011

Boston gets a pick and a solid prospect for Sturm, whos been hurt and their 5th.

Now this trade is going to be very contraversal but is nessacery

SJ gets
Aullie
Caputi
Sjostrom
Brad Ross
Tor 3rd 2011
Tor 1st 2012

TOR gets
Pavelski
Pat White (a compensationary 2nd round pick in next years draft in unsigned which is highly likely)

Pavelski's value is at its highest and BB loves this guy. he overpays slightly to aquire him. SJ gets some prospects and a solid 3rd liner and Pker

SJ gets
Wiesneiski

NYI get
Caputi
Sj 1st 2011.
Huskins

SJ gets their top 4 d man. Islanders get a first and a solid prospect up front. And a cap dump.

SJ lines now look like.

Heatley-Thornton-Seto
Sturm-Marleau-Clowe
McGinn-Couture-Mitchell
Mayers-Nichol-Sjostrom

Boyle-Murray
Vlasic- Wiesneiski
Moore- Braun

Wallin will likely replace Moore. Demers will replace Braun. Both are out injured ATM.

Now flame away

The first trade makes sense as Boston is trying to shed some salary, I could see them doing this trade. In the second deal, I think the Leafs would do this, but am not sure if San Jose can afford to give up Pavelski for prospects as he is trying to contend for a playoff spot and making a run to the Stanley Cup. and if you need a defensemen then if your trading Pavelski then just add a 1st round pick and it makes the deal better and add Gunarsson to the Sharks.

so

Sharks get:
Aullie
Caputi
Gunarsson
Sjostrom
Tor 2nd 2011

Leafs get:
Pavelski
SJ 1st 11

terrible. Can get a far better, and more useful, return for Pavelski. Not that he's available.

i honestly doubt Pavs could fetch more then

2 high level prospects
a very early 2nd 32-35
and an excellent vet.

The 1st one looks good... But I don't see a reason for the Sharks to give up Pavelski for so little.

Caputi & Aulie are not high level prospects. In the case of Caputi, you've got a player with 2nd/3rd line upside who's struggling to solidify a spot in the NHL. In the case of Aulie, you've got a guy with high quality #5 upside (think Hal Gill) who at least seems on track to be there.

That 2nd rounder is hardly guaranteed to be that early if the Leafs had Pavelski, adn Sjostrom is far from an "excellent vet". He's a relatively useful 4th line winger.

Think of it this way.... if San Jose was in fact willing to trade Pavelski, they could simply trade him for a much better defenceman than James Wisniewski. Plus, I don't think the Sharks are going to move Pavelski, they'll wait till the deadline, pick up a defenceman or two, and then spend money in the offseason on the blueline.

edit: I see you've changed the Toronto trade to the point where they give up way too many futures. The whole problem is that you're trying to overcomplicate a simple idea (Pavelski for defenders).

Id take a Hal gill type guy anyday. Gill might not be flashly but he is an excellent defender in his own zone. Its not a coincidence that the Pens went to the finals with him and the Habs went to the ECF with him in back to back years. he blocks shots, clears the net, fights hard in corners, wins battles. the stuff it takes to win but dont show up on the scorecard.

And i think of Caputi as a Clowe type player.

And in order to deal for dmen, we need to give up futures. ATM the only two really intresting guys we have are Doherty and petrecki both of whom will be monsters on defence in a few seasons and WILL NOT be traded.

We need to aquire futures before we trade futures.
