A Green-Hannan pairing should be a solid one.

Given the Avs seeming aversion to European players over the last few years, I doubt it would be Flash or Semin.

I wonder if Knuble is/was in play, as that seems to be the type of player the Avs would be looking at currently.

Ovechkin said the 2 best d-men in the NHL according to him are Markov and Hannan.

As a Flyers fan, I don't like this deal.

Hannan could really help the Caps a lot.

Good luck to Hannan. Some bashed him because he doesn't run around hitting guys, but he plays a solid, consistent and simple game that I'm sure Caps fans will instantly appreciate. He's also one of the true iron men in the league, missing only a handful of games despite blocking a ton of shots and going up against the tough opposition. He knows his offensive skills are limited, so he makes his plays accordingly.

It pains me to say it, but on paper this trade makes a hell of a lot more sense than any move Washington has made in the past two years in regards to shoring up that defense. This will pay off in the extra season.

That's a good trade for both teams, we get a stay at home Dman who can help out in the playoffs, Avs get a scoring winger.

Hannan will be great in the east. he is also tremendous in the playoffs, where you can get away with more holding and obstruction.

This is a win-win trade.

Colorado gets some badly needed top 6 help with their injuries and cuts down on their sudden defence logjam. Washington gets a veteran defenceman that will fit in nicely with Green or Carlson and they can easily replace Flash with their incredible offence.

Yeah I doubt Hannan's getting traded for Semin too but that's not saying much...

3 of the top 4 wingers from last season are hurt so this does make sense. Shame since Hannan is a solid guy and veteran presence.

Hannan made 4.5M.

Are the Avs now under the cap? They were barely floating above it but adding Hunwick and Fleishcman would have to equal about 4M or so.

Does Colorado really need more offense? I thought Mueller and Galiardi were close to returning?

IMO, they should have tried dealing Quincey or Cumiskey for an upgrade on defense.

Doesn't make much sense for Avs, our D is nothing but small-to-average sized puckmovers (and only Liles and Shattenkirk are any good with the puck)

Oh yeah, there's Foote. Who's injured.

O'Byrne, too. Has size. The only redeeming thing about him.

Hannan is far smarter, at least from what I know of him. Not as big but better positionally.

Don't like it for the Avs. Makes them easier to play against. (even though I'm a Canucks fan)
