For the record, this was JVRs 100th career game.

Frankly, I'm a little bit surprised that this team even needs sustained offensive pressure with superstars like Zherdev, Shelley, and Nodl leading the charge. Especially after dumping off all that dead weight in Gagne, Asham, Carcillo, and Laperriere, you'd figure this team was just poised for great things.

Not that he lost the game with this turnover. Flyers were down 2-0. Dump and chase didn't work. It was a good time to take a risk. The risk didn't work.

I don't see any provlem here.

The problem for Carter is that his main offense comes from the ES C position and he hasn't really played there much.

I had higher hopes for that Carter-Giroux pairing initially, but it hasn't looked too great the past few games.

Get Carter back to C where we'll know he'll produce and put Roo with Richie, goodness knows it works shorthanded.

The one at the end isn't exactly the only one he's had.

He's a supremely gifted player, probably the best raw talent on the team bar maybe JVR and maybe Giroux, but his head is not in the right place.

He does it way too much.

Dump and chase works fine, its how you play hockey. The Flyers were getting outworked down low and in front of the net in the 3rd period

A screwed up clear by O'Donnell and another defensive screw-up put the team down 2-0 in the first. Team blasts 41 shots on Thomas, who's standing on the head. Lavy pulls Bob with 2 and a half minutes left, emtpy netter, game over.

I think Richards and Giroux were together late in the game. Maybe Lavi is changing up the lines.

This is one of those games where you just shake your head, and then tip your cap to Thomas.

It's a valid question, considering you didn't actually answer what the original poster said on their own team's board. You dislike the Flyers immensely, we get it. We may not have won the Cup, but you still suffered the most embarrassing loss possible (including how the Flyers lost the Cup). Get over it.

As soon as Hartnell hit that post, I knew we were losing that game. Sometimes you face a hot goalie, sometimes the bounces don't go your way.

Today was a combination of both. The good news is we've outplayed our opponents three games straight, we're just not 1) winning the special teams battles and 2) not putting together a 60 minute effort. Turn it around Saturday.

He is taking these risks at the blue line because, if it works, it immediately creates a scoring chance (and right, if it doesn't, it creates a scoring chance the other way). Sometimes it makes sense to take a risk, sometimes it doesn't. The last one, I think, was justified.

Also depends on how confident he feels about himself and his linemates. Moving him from line to line doesn't help in this regard.

Dude, Nodl's been fantastic and Zherdev has been what anyone realistic expected. Shelley's the only real problem you listed, and everyone already knows it.

Hartnell is hilarious at shootouts and penalty shots. What an odd move he tried to pull. He even fell into the boards if I saw it right.

On a lighter note I was looking at the ice tracker thing nhl.com has and I saw Zherdev had two hits tonight. They were both on Chara I imagine he did a lot of damage. But, props to him for hitting. I'm kind of hoping Lavy will change the type of player Zherdev is so he goes on to become a more complete player, even though it's highly unlikely he'll be here next year.

The problem is Zherdev has always been that player. It's not a risk to him, it's the norm. He doesn't use his head. Maybe if he did feel confident in himself and his linemates, sure, but in implying that he doesn't, why would you take a shot on a play like that when it comes with such high inherent risk in such a high pressure situation? The guy just doesn't get it.

He left for the KHL for a year and came back essentially unchanged. By this point in the year we can pretty much assume this is what we'll get for the next few months, outside maybe a stretch or two where he goes on a tear. But aside from those potential stretches, he's generally more or equally frustrating than he is beneficial to the team.
