Anyone catch Nate Rau's latest re-hash of the same old story in today's Tennessean?

Front page, naturally.

Also naturally, most of the usual suspects in the Canadian media picked it up. They actually discussed the "dire financial straits" the Predators are in, on HTM on XM this morning...with most of their "facts" sourced in this article and similar articles from the Tennessean, previously.

also, never hurts to drop a quick line to voice some displeasure over the selective Preds coverage that the TN drops on us.

Upshall tears ACL...

Quote:
One of the League’s surprise teams got an unwelcome piece of news Sunday when the Phoenix Coyotes learned leading goal scorer Scottie Upshall will be out indefinitely after tearing the ACL in his right knee during Thursday’s game against Calgary.

A follow-up evaluation and MRI by the club’s medical staff confirmed the injury and an ACL surgical procedure is expected to be scheduled, Phoenix Coyotes GM Don Maloney announced in a statement.

Upshall, 26, recorded 18 goals, 32 points and 50 penalty minutes in 49 games for the Coyotes this season. His 18 goals represent his career-high for a season.
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=515684

Disappointing to hear. Upshall simply cannot stay healthy and one has to wonder what his potential was if he could...

Remember, Poile tried to reacquire Upshall from Philadelphia at the deadline last season, but was outbid by Phoenix. Poile seemed pretty upset that the deal didn't work out when he spoke on the radio about 45 minutes later...

Still, I don't think Phoenix will drop too much anytime soon.

Columbus fires Hitchcock, Noel named interim head coach

Quote:
A season after leading the Blue Jackets to their first playoff appearance, Ken Hitchcock has been fired.

Hitchcock, 58, will be replaced on an interim basis by assistant coach Claude Noel.
http://blog.dispatch.com/cbj/2010/02...itchcock.shtml

For those of you that remember, Claude Noel was our head development coach (Milwaukee's head coach) for several years before joining Hitchcock in Columbus two summers ago. Noel served our organization very well and has earned this opportunity.

Thankfully for us, Lane Lambert has turned out to be a great choice as Noel's replacement and our development pipeline has carried on without a hitch...

Claude is a great coach. He got the Admirals to two Calder Cup Finals, winning against WBS in 2004 and losing to Hershey in 2006.

Blake Geoffrion is taking a class this semester that requires him to be on Twitter, therefore his long standing inactive account @BlakeGeoffrion has now become active once again...

Wonder how long he'll stick with it? He tweeted yesterday that needed to tweet at least 40 times for the class, but I think was shocked at how quickly his number of followers increased...

Wow, and I thought my breaking my college's record for 1 credit courses was pathetic so I didn't graduate early.

I would bet Blake is taking a communications class and this is simply part of the classwork, not the entire class...wouldn't doubt it is an internet marketing or internet communications class...

True, but we ARE talking about academia here. It's amazing what you can find in a transcript.

And for those who are questioning:

Basic Ice Skating
Basketball
Lacrosse
Begining massage technique
Advanced massage technique
WWII in film, film study
and
4 manditory labs.

Yup, I'm pathetic.

Bob McKenzie gave him a plug, which I would bet is how it happened.

Seriously, some guys can't catch a break. As much as I hated losing assets at the time, you wish the guy well in his new opportunity. Too bad a useless hack like Booregard has to stick out a knee and effectively end Jones' season and shot at really opening eyes heading into training camp next year...

Casey Wellman, who impressed as an undrafted free agent attending the Predators prospect camp last summer, is prepared to sign a two-year contract with the Wild and might debut as early as tomorrow.

Definitely a guy I was hoping we would add to the organization, but obviously he wasn't going to get a chance at cracking the NHL roster with the Preds as he is about to get in Minnesota...

Here's a quick article from prospect camp about http://www.examiner.com/x-8246-Nashv...redators-radar

At least we in the finalists he considered:

... Nearly two dozen teams pursued the UMass sophomore sniper, and like all the finalists, the Wild offered the rookie maximum salary of $900,000. So the Wild went into full recruitment mode and separated itself from five others. According to Casey's father, Brad Wellman, it came down to Minnesota, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Nashville, San Jose and Columbus. ... So why Minnesota, besides the obvious opportunity at center? "Chuck Fletcher," Brad Wellman, a former major league infielder, said. "When the GM shows up, it's a little different than someone's head scout. I know being in the sports world, when the GM shows up -- he's a very busy guy -- that means he's very interested. That sealed the deal for us." ...

Gm Fletcher the Difference
