Parise in offseason

would it be worth a big contract and losing possibly 4 draft picks to acquire parise? i think it would be. i know the devils are going to have a hard time protecting him from offers and they dont have a lot of moveable parts.

Parise - Tavares - Moulson?

thoughts?

If the Isles ever get Parise i will drink a pint of guiness out of my running sneakers. That's how confident I am that it'll never happen.

This team won't get anywhere unless they are willing to spend. While giving up 4 firsts hurts, I would do it for a player like Parise.

That would be a very dangerous move to make if you're the Isles. Not because Parise wouldn't be worth 4 picks, he would, but because there's no need to piss of Lou.

The Devils will be out from under the cap eventually, and there's no reason to believe that it won't be in time to snatch some key players from you. Maybe Tavares is locked up by the time it happens, but Nino, Hamonic, DeHann, Kabanov, Petrov? If they pan out don't think Lou won't make it hell to resign them.

So...you get Parise AND get to drink a pint of guiness....how exactly do you lose there?

Why would he sign here?

Damn you uncovered my plot! It would've really been my celebration in getting Parise.

It may be my own opinion(I guess you share it) but Guiness has to be one of the best beers ever made. It's my go to beer everywhere I go nowadays.

Not happening one way or another but definitely not happening through an offer sheet. First round draft pics are essential to keeping a league minimum payroll.

If you were Parise, would you sign here? Unless you love losing at league minimum all while using the worst facilities in North America the answer is always no.

Ask Brian Burke how he feels about the Bruins getting 2 lottery picks in a row. Kessel is no Parise but throwing away the future for a single player is a fool's game.

What about draft picks?

The Devils are short on a few.

This probably won't be enough, but...something like.
2011 2nd rounder
2012 1st rounder

This. 4 picks is too much, if we are committed to rebuilding through the draft. One of the issues with the team is the players they are using those draft picks on...

Ok, instead of an offer sheet, what if there was a trade in place between Garth and Lou which mirrored the trade between Burke and Chia? What would your thoughts be on that?

Think of what the Devs gave up for Kovie and add to it if you ask me. But personally I think Parise > Kovalchuk.

You honestly think that's all it would take to land Parise?

Kessel cost the Leafs two first round picks, as well as a 2nd round pick. And Parise is twice the player Kessel is.

I don't even understand the point to this thread? We all know it isn't ever going to happen. This club won't even sign Miro Satan. No way they're going to fork over 7+ million a season to Parise.

Uhm...no.
That's why I said, "probably won't be enough".
My point being, the Devils lost quite a few pics, so, perhaps that is the route to go.

Even still, I think the Devils will want a combination of current talent/prospects/picks. Look at what they had to pay for Kovalchuk. So I'm sure if they deal Parise, they'd want to recoup similar to that.

Chances are you're looking at much more than what Kovalchuk went for, since Kovie was a pending UFA, whereas Parise is going to be RFA.

I don't think the Islanders are in a position to give them that. Even assuming Parise would even want to go to the Isles, it would deplete the Isles already thin organization of a handful of it's depth.

I could see cheap talented youth and picks getting it done. But it won't be a division rival, so it won't happen.

Someone posted awhile ago:

Streit & Bailey + a pick

for

Parise & Rolston

But I think Parise is happy there and will sign a Kovy type deal.

No player in the league today (save crosby or Ovy cause they bring more than winning) is worth 4 1st round picks. Given our luck all the picks would all end up being in the top 10.

Our problem is deeper than 1 player can fix.

Also why would he ever want to come here? Remember he has to sign the offer sheet so why would he ever want to come here?

I'm sure there are a number of teams who wouldn't mind getting their hands on Parise, including ones via trade. Short of the Islanders vastly overpaying for the Devils' "franchise" player, I don't see the Devils trading him not only within the division, but within the NY market. And he would actually have to sign the offer sheet to go to the lowly Isles...I dunno, I see it as a longshot.
