Yeah he did, but I'm saying it in the sense that it's not surprising for Dean to bring Sturm in now.

Lol we discussed this possibility a while back, disappointed he couldn't go out and get someone a little younger but Marco Sturm will fill in a hole at the 2nd line LW, I guess? I'm guessing he won't be on the 1st line, maybe when everyone's healthy it'll look like..

Smyth-Kopitar-Williams
Sturm-Stoll-Brown
Ponikarovsky-Handzus-Simmonds
Clifford-Lewis-Richardson
Westgarth

Doughty-Mitchell
Johnson-Scuderi
Drewiske-Greene
Harrold

I like that

We still have a prospect defenseman to trade before this season is out.

I think this is more of a 'Hey, no one is willing to trade any first line wingers this early in the season due to everyone clustered in the standings, so let's get a guy who can put up 25 goals when healthy and see what we can do in a month or two' type of deal.

He'll be good on the 1st/2nd line when healthy, and he'll be a good band-aid. He's much better than what we've been trying.

My heart is just breaking right now. I love Sturm, excellent Bruin through and through, poor guy had some back luck with injuries, otherwise, hard worker, excellent PKer, great on playing a two way defense game, and those goal faces he makes when he or a linemate scores are priceless and fun to watch.

Please appreciate him, give Marco a chance. Everywhere he goes he becomes a fan favorite. Enjoy. Sad day for us Sturm fans in Boston, I'm so angry right now that if it wasn't for the fact that Savvy might return tonight, I don't think I'd tune in to the game. If Savvy doesn't play, I just may mourn my loss of Marco and turn the TV off in his honor.

Why couldn't you have taken Ryder off of our hands instead?

... Sturm is a useful player, for sure, but most of his value lies in his defense at this point. He'd be an excellent fit on the third line with Handzus, and it would bump Clifford down to the fourth line where he belongs. Sturm can perform well on the PK, and used to be a major shorthanded threat - now he's good for about a SH goal per season.

Sturm was overexposed on the first line in Boston last season; he really never should have been there in the first place. If the Kings think that Sturm is the solution to their first line LW problems, they're sadly mistaken, but this is the Kings we're talking about here so he'll probably be dropped right in there with Kopitar right away and in a month or two I'm sure I'll see a ton of posts about what a bust Marco Sturm turned out to be. He's had a fine career, but he's an old 32.

I don't get this. I thought the Kings needed a LW to play with Kopitar.

Just a pick. But later if we need another player it's not as if we will be creating a hole in our system by doing so. My biggest problem is that we traded for someone who won't play here for a few weeks. We needed help now but it's whatever.

Hey folks. Although you`ll probably see Bruins fans being really excited about moving him, it is because of fixing cap issues, not because of any particular concern about him. The other scenarios being kicked around to fix the cap problems included waiving Ryder or Sturm to the AHL, which nobody was keen on, so trading him to the West is pretty much a great thing for everyone involved.

He`s a good PKer, fast skater, good effort. A bit streaky, but who isn`t. A good team guy. He came back quite well with minimal if any speed loss from his first knee injury, and has been skating for quite some time.

Enjoy him, he`ll probably work out for you. See you in the finals!

I am fine with a band-aid solution like Sturm. He can score, is a natural left wing, and is cheap for just a year. As long as something is being done while we continue to look for "the one."

Doesn't really solve anything long-term. Seems like a band-aid solution to prevent the ship from sinking but then again he's out for 2 more weeks at least?

Yeah, but sometimes it hurts like a ***** when you take them off.

From what I've seen (and heard & read) of Sturm, I like this pick-up.

Depends on what's going the other way of course, but sounds like it shouldn't be that much ...??

Its amazing that DL can give up Purcell & a pick for Halpern, but get O'Donnell, Modin and it now looks like Sturm for absolutely nothing.

Kind of tells you what he thought of Purcell more than anything else. Purcell's time had run out and Dean was ready to give the next youngster (Parse) a shot at it.

Now he is making a low risk move with Sturm until he can hopefully find something more suitable.

Not a bad band-aid. For a fifth round pick (rumored) which could go lower depending on games played, etc.. i think its worth the risk.

It just doesnt help us for month or 2. They said he still is 2-3 weeks out..but before learning the system and getting into game shape..its gonna take awhile.

In a nutshell...we still need to step it up (especially over the next month).
