Why would Strum have to come to LA for a physical? Wouldn't the Kings use Drs in the Boston area? They do have a team in Manchester which is not too far.

I don't know the CBA by heart so maybe someone here can help me, but I wonder if you can't trade players on LTIR. Someone mentioned Williams earlier, but I don't believe he was on LTIR when the Kings traded for him.

If this is the case, Boston is screwed as far as trading Sturm. They can't activate him to trade him since that would put them over the cap, so they will have to waive him and risk losing him for free.

Of course, I could be completely wrong, but I'm sure someone with intricate knowledge of the CBA could help here.

Thank god it's dead.
We have at leat 1 or 2 straight thinking guys in our franchise.
We should send our doctors to draft and trade.

I don't get the idea behind trading for Sturm.
he isn't able to play and we help out Boston.
If someone tells me Sturm could heal and play later we could bring Brashear in too.
Or what about Jaru Kurri or Robbitaille...... both a re incredible winger.

It's already broken tonight. Williams is with Brown and Kopitar tonight. Lewis with Stoll and Smyth.

The point in trading for him IS because he's going to play. He's a good player. He's a leader. He would make the Kings an even deeper team. There's something to be said for rolling three balanced lines, and he would make that a distinct possibility were this trade to go through.

He had knee surgery two season ago and led the Bruins in goal scoring this past season. Bruins fans indicated he didn't lose a step, either. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this trade, provided it goes through.

Let your hatred of Lombardi go grass-hoppah. That is how deals like this always have work. Unfortunately, in the day of the internet/twitter, it isn't kept quiet.

Forget Sturm's medical report, let's check out nK's medical report. He must have thrown his shouler out patting himself on the back!

No one here knows anything about being able to trade players on LTIR? I just took a cursory look at the CBA, but I couldn't find anything. I honestly don't think it's explicitly stated in there, so maybe the league decided this was some type of cap circumvention on the Bruins' part and nixed the deal.

That's going to require a trip to the business of hockey forum most likely to get an answer for. The CBA experts hang out there.

Personally, I think once he is cleared for contact the deal will be finalized.

Sucks for Sturm. He waived his NTC to play for the Kings and now he will probably be waived and won't have a choice on where he plays.

The Kings found out that he will be gone longer than 1 week they were hoping and don't want to pay his salary and accept the trade until he is closer to returning. Now, Lombardi will probably be outbid by another GM willing to trade for him sooner.

From Hammond:

Quote:
A subplot to the story would be the Kings’ possible acquisition of Marco Sturm. If that goes down, Sturm — who is in the final stages of recovery from offseason knee surgery — might also be in line to return sometime next week.
I thought everyone knew he wouldn't be back until January?

Nobody's going to outbid him for Sturm. Sturm can block any trade, if his destination in mind is Los Angeles, then he will get it. However there is the possibility DL will move on and he probably should. Now that other GM's know he has a player in mind maybe they will come down a tad on their offered deals and put something together with him.

Unless they have a hand shake deal to get it done closer to Sturms return.

Who else is available now for such a low draft pick?

Probably nobody. But would you rather have Sturm for a low draft pick or a better player for a prospect? Time will tell what happens with this but I am sure DL won't be outbid.
