Buying time......

Does anyone think that DL didn't know every angle of this entire thing prior to sending in the paperwork?

You give Lombardi way too much credit. Isn't he the one who signed McCauley and then bought him out after only playing 10 games for the Kings?

I think this is a case where AEG doesn't want to pay a player to sit for a month. The Kings thought he would be back next week and pulled out when they discovered he would be out longer.

Come on, at least give him credit for the 10 games he played as a King.

Bob tweet:

Final word on aborted Sturm deal: LAK were furnished with player's medical records. They had concerns with what they saw.

This is a good sign for us.

Kings thought he might be able to play next week, turns out he can't. So they nix the trade for now.

To me this means the Kings are aggressively looking for a LW via trade now. And no use shooting our load, until their is an egg to fertilize.

Nice metaphor, I'll continue it. I don't think the Kings are going to get laid.

I have to say that I'm pretty disappointed about this turn of events. I came around to thinking that this was a good move, or at least about as good as we were likely to get. Sturm has been a good player in the past, and he adds speed which is something the Kings have sorely lacked. Even if he couldn't play next week, I still would have liked to take a chance on him, particularly if the cost is only a conditional draft pick. Sure, he wasn't going to revolutionize the team, but what player out there that is available would?

If Lombardi &co. looked at the medical reports and didn't like what they saw, I think it has to be an issue more serious than not playing next week. Lombardi, for all his faults, thinks long-term. If he thinks he's getting a good deal here--a player that fits, at the right price--a few weeks more of injured reserve time would not dissuade him.

So the Kings are gonna have to "take care of themselves"?

Precisely. By which I mean develop a player from within the system.

I've always been a fan of David Booth and he had an incredible game last night for the Panthers, I know Florida is rebuilding and he might be one of those pieces of their core but I wonder what the price would be for him. He's a LW and could probably fill that void on the 1st line, or someone like Stephen Weiss could be an upgrade over Stoll.

I'm upset we didn't look into grabbing a guy like Zherdev in the off-season, seeing him play well in Philly really does upset me, especially when I think of how marvelous he'd look on Kopitar's left wing

Maybe what Boston were saying didn't match what the Kings discovered in the medical records they presumably received after the deal was made?

Would make sense for the Kings to nix it in that situation. And like others said, just because the deal is dead now doesn't mean it won't happen later.

Told #Bruins #Kings deal for Sturm far from dead. Lombardi wanted additional medical information that he was entitled to prior to trade.

Am I missing something? He only has 9 points in 24 games..about the same as Simmonds and no one thinks Simmonds is playing well...

Fans on the Bruins board are saying he's in the gym in Boston and is available to speak to the media.

But that's just what the fans are saying...

He wasn't at bruins practice today, but their pr guy said it was his scheduled day off.
