Markus Nordlund

Anyone have any info on Nordlund? I see he has some serious size and looks like he has some definite ability. Any word on whether he is receiving NHL interest?

Well what I read in some reports of some fans earlier this season even him producing he was pretty lazy out there in general and especially defencively and doesn't use his size like he could potentially.

I'm a TPS -homer with "Masto" being one of my favorite players but I think I can tell about him realistically.

Really good on the offensive end. Right now plays like a fourth forward. Has the skill to play good defense (as seen on last playoffs), but it's like he forgets it in regular season. Right now is playing with huge confidence. Is sometimes the first man on the offensive zone despite starting as the last.
I wouldn't call him lazy despite him looking like it sometimes.
Don't look at his +- stat, the whole team sucked for the start of the season.

+slapshot
+Loves shooting the puck
+huge reach
+good speed
+Takes very small amount of penalties (career high of 28 minutes in adult leagues, so far this year he has 4 minutes)
+can deke really well
+likes to hold the puck which lead to scoring chances...

-but which also causes problems when he tries to deke 3 forwards instead of just passing the puck
-despite being a good deker he does lose the puck somewhat often
-Some positional problems in the defensive end
-Inconsistent on defense
-needs to be paired with a defensive minded guy
-Could and be more physical

If he can work on his problems (mainly inconsistent defensive play and puck hogging) he could be a useful D-man in the NHL, especially on the PP. But I'd say right now he is not ready for the big league.

to me he is enough physical to sm-liiga and skating is one of hes weaknesses

I wouldn't call skating in the speed sense as his weakness (he does skate somewhat fast for a player of his size, on SM-liiga level), but his acceleration is bad. So yeah, should have been clearer.

Okay I take back what I said about his speed, he is slow even when at full pace.

His speed is actually pretty good, but acceleration and agility are terrible. Once he gets full speed, he flies like the wind.
