So far with 2 assists, Ranford has tied the amount of points he had last season (65 in 72 games) in 41 games.

Phantoms had a furious comeback from down 2-0 to force OT in Abbotsford. They were unable to win in the shootout, but still got a point. Winning streak is no longer, but the team is playing better. Would be happier if they could score first and hold on to a lead instead of always having to come from behind.

In the case of Abbotsford, they fly. Part of the deal when Abbotsford joined the AHL was that they have to subsidize part of the travel expenses since they are so far from any other team.

Air travel is much more common in the western conference than the eastern conference since the teams are much more spread out.

A lot of the stupid things he got pegged for in the OHL were a result of being bigger/stronger than 95% of the players on the ice. Not to dismiss them, but there were a few suspensions that were for the name on the back of the jersey and not the action on the ice.

Now quit making me stay nice stuff about Rinaldo. I don't like him. But he can be an effective 4th liner who has the opposition entering the zone tentatively.
Agreed. Whenever he's asked about Flyer prospects, Holmgren always says that Rinaldo will be a Flyer. He's got NHL speed and hitting right now. He has decent hands and he's good defensively. I can see him getting more ice time than Carcillo because they'll be able to use him on the PK. He's also good enough to fill in on a higher line if necessary (like Carcillo or Powe).

Powe is actually a good comparison, in that Rinaldo is very fast and hits harder than people expect for a guy his size - it's just that Rinaldo has a more of a psycho edge.

Phantoms currently lead Abbotsford 1-0

PP goal by Gustafsson, assist by Wellwood.

Backlund in net tonight

edit: changed the goal to Michael Ryan, and Gustafsson the assist

Testwuide scores his 2nd goal of the season as well.

Thanks. Abbotsford must pull in decent numbers in order to be able to do that. Or, this is their first season so we don't really know?

On the topic of the AHL, I found this thread on the AHL board interesting. Apparently the Rochester Americans were/are? considering breaking ties with the Panthers and being an independent team.

Some comments by Teemu and a mention of his relatively current stats by someone else is in the comments section here.

The guy who wrote that has updates on twitter for European prospects.

Eriksson is currently a back up.

Some of the mock drafts on nhl have been posted.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=5...id=DL|NHL|home

Obviuously its a crap shoot at who we take, or if we will even have a first round pick this draft year but here are the 3 players the three writers thought we should.

ADAM KIMELMAN:

Quote:
Seth Ambroz, RW, Omaha (USHL)
SKINNY: Big, strong and knows how to score -- sounds like a Flyer
MIKE G. MORREALE:

Quote:
Jamieson Oleksiak, D, Northeastern (HE)
SKINNY: The 6-7, 244-pound freshman already is being compared to Chara; 5 pts., plus-7 rating in 18 games
STEVEN HOFFNER:

Quote:
Christopher Gibson, G, Chicoutimi (QMJHL)
SKINNY: Gibson could be next great goalie to come out of Finland.

Out of those 3, Oleksiak sounds like he could be a monster.

Yeah Olecksiak has looked good all season. Very strong and physical. I would love to see the Flyers get him.

so who is going to the game saturday? cant wait to see all those hot shot prospects and up and coming players they have in the system. I would love to run into a certain someone and break bread.

Would anyone be shocked if Wellwood never plays another game with the flyers unless their are injuires?

You can't predict who the Flyers will take. Just ask Garret Klotz.

Wellwood can probably be a good 3rd/4th liner in the NHL. Dude is only 20.

I am not saying he is an awesome prospect like Shafer does, but he has the tools to be an energy player in the NHL

I was just throwing the ? out there.

It is only his first year of pro hockey no doubt so to say bust or player at this point is hard to say. Nothin wrong with the ahl for a few years. I hope the guy pans out but to write him in next years lineup is comical imo. As i said over the summer, the flyers though are very high on him , though that may not be saying much

I think there is a chance he could replace Carcillo on next year's roster. Either that or we get a cheap UFA to do it. Wellwood's cap hit is tiny which could be useful if we are tight against the cap.

Imo they go the free agent route on a cheap 1 year deal for 600k. I don’t think wellwood is ready for the nhl just yet. Now if they want to give a guy like him a shot and don’t sign a veteran free agent that is fine as well. You can find a 4th line vet anytime.

i love how you comapre the two, quite comical. What does rinaldo have to do with the conversation about the great gus?that ahl all star selcetion will look great on his resume when he goes to europe in a few years after he doesnt make the nhl. They should have picked no one as they dont deserve it.

yeah i am puzzled as well why rinaldo didnt make it either.

well considering Gus is tied for 4th in defenseman scoring as a rookie and the league is going to try and grab at least 1 player from every team. its not really a stretch to see why Gus was given the honor.
