Jamie Oleksiak is a very interesting prospect. How does he compare to Chara or Myers? I would think some one with his measurables would go higher being how dominate those two defensemen are in the nhl. Why isn't he rated higher?
According to Euroflyers, Simon Bertilsson has been named to Team Sweden's WJC roster.
So, thats a good thing right?
He is their best d prospect imo. Let him stay in Europe as it will hinder his development if he comes over to the mess called the phantoms next year. Rather he learn over there. Needs to stay healthy.
For anyone interested, the Phantoms have their first set of white jerseys up for auction on eBay. Opening bids are $150 and I can't imagine that they will go for all that much.
Yeah haha. That's a good thing. It's been assumed that his injury held him out last year, but he'll be going this year.
We pretty much knew this was coming though.
He missed out last year because of an injury (although, he was himself an injury replacement as well...). I hope they pair him with Patrik Nemeth this year. That would be a pretty solid second pairing I think and Nemeth would allow Bertilsson to be a little more adventurous in the offensive zone. He needs to develop that part of his game a little bit more I think. He's been very cautious the games I've seen him.
As a side note, if we could draft Rickard Rakell, I'd be happy. He's looked great in camp from what I've heard.
As for Gustafsson being scouted for the World Championship... from what I've understood, they'll be taking a small look at pretty much everyone playing across the ocean, including many of those in the AHL. I highly doubt he'll have any chance of making the team. This is not because he's not good, but the best defenders we already have available over in the SEL are somewhat similar to Gustafsson in that they excel in the offensive aspect of the game, but are a bit questionable defensively (guys like Mattias Ekholm, David Rundblad, Sebastian Erixon and to some extent Magnus Johansson). Add in guys like Erik Karlsson who looks like he'll be available and the quota is filled and then some.
Of course, a year ago no one over here had ever even heard of Gustafsson, so the fact that he's actually garnering any interest whatsoever is a positive sign.
Phantoms surprise the house in Glens Falls and beat the defending champs, Hershey, 3-1. Riopel looked good and Hamel scored 2, including his career 300th. Harper got his first goal of the season on a breakaway to the backhand.
"It was really nerve-racking when three weeks goes by and you don't have a job," Maroon said. "Once I got that call that says I've been traded to the Anaheim Ducks...I've never been happier."
Despite that last line, Maroon has no hard feelings for the Philadelphia organization. "Philadelphia is a great organization...I'll never say anything bad about them."
The 2007 sixth round pick is thankful that the Ducks picked him up and is looking forward to working his way towards an NHL future in Anaheim. "For me, it's about coming in here to work hard on and off the ice. [I'll] be a third year guy that comes in here as a role player [at first]."
I posted that in the OT thread too -- it was unbelievable, and the clip missed the first couple of blocks he had on the 5 on 3. He pretty much killed it singlehandedly.
First time I've ever seen a PK'er get a standing ovation for killing a penalty against the home team.
The fact he just took so many shots to the feet. That has to seriously hurt. God damn!
I think he blocked 5 in all during the PK. And then scored a goal to put Guelph ahead at the end of the period.
Edit: They just interviewed him between periods of today's game. They asked him what he was going to do on the Christmas break. His response? "Ice my feet".
I love this kid. Too bad he's playing for that team.

with all the pluggers and depth guys on the team right now why is the phantoms pk doing so bad? scoring isnt something im worried about with this group but playing shorthanded is one aspect of the game id expect theyd excel at.
Kind of funny little blurb about how Ranford's team, the Kamloops Blazers, celebrate goals.
Quote:
On Tuesday, Nov. 23, it became clear the celebration had caught on when, after a long video review in overtime, Dalibor Bortnak was ruled to have scored a game-winning goal against the Regina Pats.
“That one game where we had the video review on the OT goal, I just walked around and said ‘If we win, we’re doing it right now,” Underwood said.
The red light turned on — a roster-full of hands bolted toward the Interior Savings Centre’s ceiling.
Even German-born Bernhard Keil joined in, although his teammates are not convinced he knows exactly what’s going on.
“He thinks it’s just a standard Canadian celebration,” Barnett joked after practice.
