Schenn sent down to Juniors Friday

Per Helene:

Brayden Schenn will go back to his junior team Friday. Makes sense for kid to keep playing.

My exact lineup except for swapping Williams and Brown, but Smyth-Kopitar-Brown is all right with me. Also maybe putting Richardson on the RW and Lewis at C for the 4th line.

Not sure what the kid has to prove, but I guess it's better than sitting all season.

Just for the record, I hope he gets traded to a better team, a team with a legit shot at a playoff spot or a Memorial Cup run. Playing for team Canada at the WJC (and hopefully sporting the C) will help the kid, sucks though, he would've fit in perfectly with the Monarchs, hopefully this isn't a step back for him

Murray got his wish.

Does anyone else feel that he was really pushing the issue through the media? Some of his quotes really looked like he was trying to put pressure on DL.

bout time. He'll probably be captain of the WJC team and maybe will get a trade to a memorial cup contender.

My favorite part of this thread is the title. Past tense for a future event.

Well, Schenn has the WJC, the rest of the WHL season, possibly the Memorial Cup and finally the AHL playoffs with the Monarchs. Tearing his way through all of this will help to prove that Schenn is ready to legitimately contend for the 2nd line center spot next year.

Hard to get in at the moment. Team is more comfortable with Richardson/Lewis as their 4th line center long term.

Look for the Brandon Wheat Kings to have a deal in place during the WJC. Big deals always go down right after the tourny. Portland Winter Hawks are an obvious guess, so is his hometown..Saskatoon Blades.

Assuming you are correct, Murray isn't out of bounds with his statements. He wants an NHLer on the roster and may very well honestly believe Schenn would be better off in the WHL. That's nothing against Schenn at all IMO.

I don't think the comments were about Schenn at all....it was more towards Lombardi and him dragging his feet regarding Schenn.

According a poster on another forum, their is already a trade for Schenn in place, apparantly the deal will consumate once his return is made official tomorrow.

Portland is already so ridiculously stacked . . . I would assume they'd be favorites if they got Schenn.

Would Schenn be old enough to make the Monarchs team at the end of the year?

Turns out to be a nice development year for Schenn without the Kings burning a year off his ELC.

Rumor is that he'll be traded to Saskatoon. Brandon is going into rebuilding mode with guys like Hamonic, Calvert, Schenn, Glennie, etc. all leaving soon for the pros or already having done so.

Saskatoon is second in the Dub right now and Schenn is a hometown boy, so that would be a good situation for him if the speculation is true.

Could that be why the Kings waited so long to do this? Waiting for the junior team to get a deal done? Instead of Lombardi dragging his feet or whatever.

Has nothing to do with it. If anything, Lombardi has held up the process. The Kings have no say at all with what Brandon does with his junior rights.

Didn't say the Kings did. I asked if the Kings kept Schenn around instead of sending him down earlier because they knew Brandon was looking to deal him since apparently they're in rebuilding mode, and were waiting for a deal to get done.

Brandon can't really deal Schenn until he is safely back in juniors. Why would another team take a risk on a guy who may not get sent down. Brandon also gets more if they wait for him to come back.

Why would the Kings keep Schenn around waiting for a deal to get done? I don't understand the logic.

I think he would be better for him to stay in Brandon. Its a comfortable situation for him and should the Wheat Kings get eliminated early or not make the playoffs he could join Manchester late in the season and/or for a playoff run. This would help him going into next year too like Eberle last year.
