Tiger back?

For anyone who is interested, Woods is leading the Chevron World Challenge (his own tournament) by four strokes heading into the last round today, looking for his first win of the year. Not an official PGA event but the field is stronger than 70% of the stops on the PGA tour.

Still too early to tell but it is good news

Golf needs Tiger Woods to come back and do well again, he was such a ratings draw. Golf really suffers without his domination.

You can't say "hes back" by playing one good tournament, but its a start. Albeit in a limited field. I fully expect him to win a major this year but it will all depend on how hes putting at the time.

It's because he's on Twitter now.

McDowell wins in a playoff. This is like some sort of diving intervention. A player of McDowell's caliber simply does not drain putts like that regularly.

Wow what clutch play by the best closer in the game right now.... Graeme McDowell.

You could tell Woods (and the crowd) thought the victory was in the bag on the 18th but it looks like his money shot came too soon.

He has been doing it all year for the most part.

You are aware that he won the US Open at Pebble Beach right? Something only Tiger, Jack, Watson and Tom Kite have done. Greame is a player.

Its a start. Yeah he had the double bogey but this was more a case of McDowell winning it than Tiger losing it. I hope this is a good sign for 2011. Golf needs Tiger Woods back to his old self.

Completely disagree with you. Tiger 3-putted 2 of the first 3 greens and had the horrible double bogey on 13. If Tiger 2-putts those greens and just makes a par from 100 yards he wins the tournament by 4 shots. He absolutely let McDowell back in the tournament and McDowell took advantage of it.

He did give GMac the opportunity to come back early on, but GMac made some nice putts at the end on 18

I am not taking anything away from GMac. His putting was absolutely clutch. The up and down on 17 was stellar.

However, Tiger threw away 4 shots (arguably 5 since he easily could have made birdie on the par 5 13th from 100 yards in the fairway) on 3 holes. If he routinely 2-putts the 1st and 3rd greens and just makes par on 13, he walks away with the tournament and that is precisely what the "old" Tiger would have done.

Interesting to note that Tiger was using a heel shafted Nike Method 003 as well, I still find it odd watching him putt without a Scotty and without a Newport2/Anser2

Yes, it is odd to see Tiger with any putter other than his Scotty. However, on one of the golf forums that I go to, there is a lot of discussion that the Method in its current setup isn't the right putter for Tiger.

It will be interesting to see if Nike tries to lure Scotty Cameron to them now that Fortune is selling off Acushnet.

Yeah I heard rumors on golfwrx that he was going to go to Nike, I would be surprised and I think he will probably just go independent like Bettinadri

I would be shocked if he goes the route of Bettinardi. Bettinardi is more of a boutique manufacturer and doesn't pump out nearly as many putters to the retail market as Titleist does for SC.

Scotty and Nike are a match made in heaven. It gives Scotty a manufacturer who can mass produce his line of putters and it gives Nike credibility in the one aspect of the game that they don't have.

BTW, do you post on golfwrx? I'd definitely recommend checking out puttertalk.com if you don't go there already.

I'm the same way. I used to post more there, but it doesn't seem like there is much fresh content anymore. How many threads do you really need about blades vs game improvement irons?
