So, do you guys even miss Kovalchuk?

Only wondering. After we beat them yesterday I was thinking, I really bet Kovalchuk was on the Thrashers right now. I think it's extremely funny that he left Atlanta to go to a better team, yet the Thrashers are 13 points ahead of the Devils a good portion into the season. I just wonder what all of your thoughts are on him now, if you guys still like him, would you take him back, etc.

Thanks!

he's still one of my favorite players.

Sure I miss him. He was a nice guy, was the face of the franchise, and brought an element of excitement that made being a fan very fun.

Do I want him back? Not really. Not sure he'd buy into our team concept. A concept that has us playing as one of the more dangerous teams in the league right now. Winning as a team > Individual.

I really hope that Ilya is learning something through this ordeal. Hockey is a team game and defense is just as important as offense. If he'd play a bit more team D like the other superstars in this league he'd be worth his huge pay packet....and I'd love to have him back. But if he's only going to play on one end of the ice I'll stick with the hand we have now.

Kovy will learn the English word for team some time in the next fourteen and two thirds seasons.

I am grateful for him because half our team essentially stems from trading him and if we hadnt moved him we would probably be terrible.

no i dont really miss him though

Like the guy, but I really don't miss him and wouldn't take the same Kovy back to be honest.

Wish him the best. Glad he turned down $100 million from us. Do not want him back.

Trading him helped out this franchise more than anything in the past several years. He was exciting to watch, but I wouldn't want him back.

I don't think the players that were here with him really miss him either. Even Afinogenov had hoped to come back to the Kovy-less team.

Nice guy with the kids. He never turned down an autograph request, and he showed up to play with the kids through his foundation, but he never really showed interest in the team concept.

I guess he'll learn that money has to buy happiness because his play sure isn't.

The Devils bought his soul and payback is HELL!!!!!!

Yes

The extra depth that this team now has and also a decent coach would look much better with Kovalchuk in the lineup.

We still have the cap space to add a similar marquee player if ownership is willing to support this team (wishful thinking)

There's no reason for that.

Yes, Kovalchuk can score, but the return can score, too.
Yes, Kovalchuk is great at point, but Byfuglien is great, too.
His cap hit was 6.4 mil, just 0.3 mil less than sum of the Buff's, Bergie's and Sopel's cap hit.
One player (Kovalchuk) doesn't make the winning team, 3-4 players (Oduya, Bergfors, Byfuglien, Sopel...) are able to make that.

Thanks Kovy, but without you, or rather with return from your trade, are Thrashers better.

Trading him away was for the best and the situation he now finds himself in is karmic payback. His former team is doing well (partially due to some of the pieces they acquired in the trade) and his new team is so close to the salary cap that they cannot field an entirely competitive team.

I think the Thrashers are a better team without him, and with the teams financial situation I really do not think we could afford to keep him and build a winning team.

I am not one of the folks here that wish him ill, and am pretty disappointed in how the season has started for him. I cannot speak for him in the locker room, and his defensive weaknesses are well known....but he always was a pretty top notch guy in regards to fan interaction and is as good a local citizen as you can ask from a superstar athlete.

as long as he is a Devil his career is OVER lolololol 5 goals lolololol

I'd take him back. We would be a cup winner with him.

But yea, his career is over if he stays on the Devils. They need to trade him.

He will pull a (Dany Heatley) and be out of New Jersey in 2 years tops. He is also the only Former Thrasher that would return. But that contract is going to kill any chance of him going any ware.

I miss having a top-tier goal scorer every year,

but I don't necessarily miss 'him'.

Of course a Flyer fan would start a thread like this

Frankly, it's a stupid question. Look at the situation both teams are in (Thrashers and Devils). What Thrasher fan in their right mind would say they want Kovy back? Maybe if they could keep every other piece they gained from the trade, but no way they would go back to Kovy if it meant giving up what have become key pieces of their team.

Saying his career is over as long as he is on the Devils is shortsighted and jealous sounding at best, BTW.

Ilya is a good guy and didn't leave the Thrashers for money, but for what he was advised was a chance to be on a better team. One that could win the Cup.

I wish him well in the future, but not this season. It would be sweet to see the Thrashers in the post-season with the Devils looking in from the outside.
