God I hope Karlsson starts off the season healthy.

Otherwise, there's going to be a lot of schadenfreude going around.

I love Karlsson, he's an incredible talent - but he only has the one ELITE season under his belt, so I understand how others (particularly those who don't see him play regularly) will take awhile to understand.

Who remembers the main boards at the start of last year.

"Karlsson best player in the league."

"Karlsson best defender AINEC."

Was major consensus.

We'll get back to those heights, boys.

Can't believe that him coming back 2 months from an impossible-type speed recovery and yet he is lashed at for his play even though still putting up unbelievable numbers for his condition.

The Hockey News ranks Karlsson 4th overall on their Top 50 players list. Crosby, Ovechkin and Stamkos ahead.

Spezza 19th, Anderson 36th.

Advanced stats suggest he was the best defense men offensively and defensively last year before he was injured. At least thats the impression they gave me.

Another example that stats don't tell the whole picture, offensively maybe but certainly not defensively with Chara, Weber & many others who are so much better defensively. Hell Methot & Phillips are better defensively than Karlsson, I think most would agree with that. Why then would Maclean hardly play Karlsson on the PK in his Norris winning year, it's what everyone complained about.

Karlsson already plays more minutes then any other and there's no point. We already have extremely successful pk without tiring out our best player on it. Weber actually had the best defensive stats this passing season but karlsson's stats were comparable to chara and weber well being better then keith's. Karlsson play tons of minutes for two reasons. He plays against top lines 5 v 5 because he's trusted defensively but he also is used to take advantage over weaker lines leading to him having a very good corsi. Karlsson is not a shut down dmen. Let me make that clear. He not overly used in defensive situations that would waste his offensive talent. Saying that he is very good defensively.

I'm just holding my breath that he's gonna bounce back this season after that playoff.

I still remember watching him in Ottawa, 2009 World Juniors, and wondering what the hoopla was all about because the Sens drafted him. Mind you I didn't follow team sweden until Canada played them in the Final! He didn't stand out at that game at all!

Maybe not in the finals, but he was named the Best Defenseman of the tournament.
